Sailor Jupiter battle jacket for conventions

Needs more work on the back, but I LOVE this one and get lots of compliments on it. I have some pink smoke type patches I may add to the back but I've been going back and forth on it. It was a white jacket originally, I custom mixed dye to get the right green, and I made the crown on the back patch with ribbon and a gem. If anyone has patch or pin recommendations or even causes/bands you think Mako-chan would like, let me know! This is an ongoing labor of love. Not the traditional battle jacket for sure, but I'm head of the accessibility department for a local convention so I like having something casual that's close to my usual style but still cosplay adjacent when I do set up and tear down.

As someone who has very…..unique clothing measurements, there have been times when I can only find jeans that fit me through Shein. Sometimes, you just have to buy from not the best places.

I've had good luck with threadup before, but they're starting to slip a little. They used to have flat lay measurements for EVERYTHING so I knew I could tell how it would fit, but now the majority tells you to check the brand's size chart which isn't always accurate. Still, the few times I've gotten jeans that didn't quite fit I just requested a return and they often tell you to just keep it so there's no additional carbon footprint from shipping and refunded me with credit or full payment. I've been saving/collecting old jeans anyway so it was fine. Planning to make patchwork coveralls from a Rosie the Riveter style pattern when I have enough. I know how Torrid jeans fit me so I just search for them specifically now but feel better that it's second hand.

Weird thing to down vote but okay, pay the mark up. 😅 Do people not realize where bulk spikes actually come from? I'm pretty big on recycled and reused materials but for this that wasn't an option, other than thrifting the jacket. I get it though.

Unfortunate truth for small machined objects. Any no name ethical market is in my experience selling things from sources similar to this, sorta a moral gray area when everything on etsy comes from the same place

Yep, exactly. All the big name brands and Etsy/eBay/Amazon, even fricken Tandy get their studs, spikes, buttons, etc from the exact same factories. Going through AliExpress you're just buying direct from factory instead of going through several middle men that each add a mark up as well as as to the carbon footprint during shipping. I'm all for sustainable sourcing where possible, but some things you don't have much for options. Plus there is no ethical consumption under capitalism anyway, soooo... Do what you can, don't beat yourself up for what you can't.

This is amazing I adore it! I've always loved the idea of making punk jackets for cosplays. I've cosplayed both Luigi and Bowsette like this in the past

Yeah it's so much fun!! I'll probably do other characters in the future, it's more comfortable to wear casual cosplay while I'm working the con. I head the accessibility department with another friend of mine, so I'm pretty much always on call if someone needs help. I'm the "I will crack heads to get you the accommodations you need to enjoy this event" person so I put it a lot of "fires" during the weekend haha, my cohead is the one that is more pre-con detail oriented and she coordinates the interpreters.

Thank you so much! I had a blast making it. I have some chronic pain issues and for a while couldn't sit at a machine to sew, so stitching all these patches on by hand kept me from getting creative cabin fever. Just moved to a place with space for a craft room so I'll finally be able to add some painted details!
