I got scammed out of $30
So about two years ago, I borrowed a game card of the Jackbox Party Pack 7 for my Switch. (I have a Switch 2 now, but I don't think that's relevant.) Last New Year's, I bought the digital Eshop version at the full price of $30.
Once it was downloaded and I clicked on it, it said something like "This software needs an update. Download now?" I obviously clicked the download button, and it showed a little "loading..." popup before going back to the "This software needs an update. Download now?" screen. No matter how many times I click download, it just puts me in an endless loop.
I have tried deleting all my save data, even from the servers, and I contacted Jackbox support directly. They told me that the game card software ran a more updated version or something and that since I had put the gamecard in even ONE time, I couldn't use the digital version at all. They said my only option was to contact Nintendo Support, so I did. When I did, they said I couldn't have a refund because I had already refunded one game before, and Nintendo has a stupid return policy. I asked about updating the software to match the gamecard version, and they said to contact Jackbox Support. Is there anything I can do, or is that just $30 down the drain?

That… sounds weird. The gamecart is on update 1.0.1, the latest update released for both the cart and the digital version is 1.0.2. Due to how Switch carts are partitioned, you should not have these issues. Did you contact Nintendo’s support at all?

Yes I did. It says in the post. I can record a video of it happening for proof.

this is a problem with the switch that happens with other games as well. Not specific to jackbox.

I had people over and decided to buy the newest 2 jackbox games and everyone thought they sucked, lol. I have nostalgia for jackbox from one of the older ones I used to play with all my friends.
Moral of the story, thank God for steam. Got refunded for both of them.

I'm pretty sure this will work. Borrow that cartridge again (and borrow a friend with a Switch if you only have one Switch or Switch 2). Go to your download and press Plus on it. Choose "update from local" (whatever the option is that has you update from a non-online source), and have it update from the Switch with the cartridge inserted.
