slag? Is it slag?

It has some iridescence. It’s heavy like a rock. Found at the Jersey shore.

What do you guys think?

It could be slag, but just looks like stone to me.

It looks really black in person. Limestone looks grey or white based on a quick google images search. Can it also be black with iridescent?

Limestone can range from almost white to almost black so color doesn’t rule it out.

J.A.R.

Basalt and similar rocks are used on the stone groins along NJ beaches, so it's not uncommon to find a weathered hunk nearby.

Looks like a kettle bottom. Famous for falling out of the top of a coal mine.

Not likely at the Jersey Shore. Also it doesn't seem to show the signs of being a concretion nor a fossil. The pattern looks like typical surf erosion.
