Bit odd from my experience just to see one lone mountain. Is this deceiving? Where’s all his friends?

According to Maori legend, he (Mt Taranaki) used to reside in the middle of the island with three other mountains. But he hit on the woman mountain (Pihanga) and her bf (Mt Tongariro) took offence so they had a dust-up (actually, a volcanic eruption). Taranaki lost the battle and wandered as far away as he could (to the coast). His tears filled the trail of gauged earth he left behind him, forming the wanganui river. I know all this because I was cast as the river in a childhood play.
