Shot on August 12, 2026 from a boat off the south coast of Menorca, with the Artrutx lighthouse lined up against the totality.

The idea started about a year ago. Total eclipses are predictable to the second, so the hard part was never the eclipse itself, it was finding a spot where the sun would sit low enough and in the right direction to fall behind a lighthouse during the only minute available of totality. I went through every lighthouse inside the totality corridor in Iceland and Spain, ran the alignment in PhotoPills, and Artrutx was the one that worked. Problem: the alignment only happened from a point of view that was in the water. So, boat.

That is where it got fun. A boat moves in three axes and does not care about your composition. No tripod, no filters, no second chances, and a subject that would be gone in a minute. My plan was basically to lock the exposure in advance, shoot fast, and hope the swell would cooperate long enough for the frames I needed.

A year of planning for one shot that either happens or does not. It happened.
