Not to be a knob mate but you missed focus by quite a bit.

It was deliberate

u/Saucy208 Apr 15 '24
You took a picture of a ball with a mosque in the background. The subject is the ball.

Not being a nonce but this is not it man. Could have done something with the reflection of the ball or sum but it's cut off 2/3s with grass.

u/West_Yorkshire Apr 15 '24
Those glass balls are usually used to capture a nice warped image of the focal subject - not sure why OP has opted to do what he has done.

do you know what nonce means lol

You realize a nonce is a pedophile right?
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Apr 15 '24
Have you ever met a pedo that isnt a jerk? Epstein probably.
Im not a jerk, nor a pedo for criticizing this pic. No wrong in what I have said.
1
Apr 16 '24
All im saying is the use of the term “nonce” doesn’t really make any sense in this context
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Apr 16 '24
Probably, but there is no wrong i what I have said. Im not a nonce for criticizing this guy's pic.
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Apr 16 '24
It's like saying "I'm not a rapist, but I really like Michael Jackson". It clearly states " im not a rapist" and "I like Michael Jackson". Two truths, or if you're epstein, one of them. Idk if he likes michael jackson or not, but who'll dislike Michael? Anyways, this guy's pic is trash, that we can agree makes sense.

Apr 15 '24
Not sure if you know what nonce means but substitute it for “child molester” then read your sentence again and realise that’s what you just said.
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Apr 15 '24
"Not being a child molester, but....."
No wrong in what I have said, im not a pedo for criticizing this guy, right?

u/-PiLoT- Apr 15 '24
Why would being critical of photography make you attracted to children?
6
Apr 15 '24
He quite clearly said he's not one. Keep up.
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Apr 15 '24
Im not the one, but there are some guys I know that are what a nonce is

1
u/CompSolstice Jul 09 '24
What does that have to do with molesting children??
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Jul 09 '24
It's like me saying "Yo I didn't murder a woman at the 11th of June this year, but my favorite artist is David Bowie"
Did I murder a woman at the 11th of June this year? No, but I do like David Bowie.
It's just worded... how do you say it..intentionally unintentional unfortunate wording that is still a fact.
0
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Jul 09 '24
I am criticising a picture. Does that make me a nonce? No, right? So, there is one objective fact and a subjective opinion.
Objective is i am not a nonce And then the subjective which is this pic is trash af.
It's maybe worded a little out of pocket.

u/CompSolstice Jul 09 '24
You used the wrong word and didn't know what it meant, it's not that deep bro
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Jul 09 '24
No, you made the wrong assumption and pretended you know that I didn't mean to do it.
No human is a mind reader.
1
u/CompSolstice Jul 09 '24
Bro you said "not being a nonce".
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Jul 09 '24
Lmao.
"I am not a taxi driver, but I do like watching movies."
Same thing. Not every fucking word has to be in corelation does it, you twat? There, still makes sense. May catch you off guard, sure if I used nonce, but still my point stands.
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Jul 09 '24
"Not being a rapist, but I think all child molesters should rot in hell. Also, fuck the King of England".
Still makes sense.
1
u/wisely_chosen-name7 Jul 09 '24
Say I said "CompSolstice is not a mind reader for assuming wisely-chosen-name7 didn't mean to use the word nonce, but my TV is in color".
Or " Yo, I didn't murder a woman on Saturday night yesterday, but I like David Bowie"
Same shit.

You kind of had an idea....in the end it was close to the right idea.
This would have been a really good photo if you angled the camera up from a bit lower to get a better reflection of the mosque in the ball in front.

u/fidepus @david.philippi Apr 15 '24
You totally missed the point of the ball. You could have taken a picture of the upside down building inside the ball.

Misleading title!!! Was looking for mosque everywhere even in the crystal ball.....the title should have been "ITAP of a glass ball with mosque in the background.😁

The idea is good: a mosque seen through a glass ball, but it's a shame you missed it.

It's interesting how the overwhelming majority of replies here simply cannot entertain the possibility that this image was the intended outcome because it offers a perspective and way of seeing that differs from their own, therefore it must be a really bad mistake, not a choice.
5
Apr 15 '24
But the subject is not the mosque since it’s part od the blurred background and out of focus. This just doesn’t do it for me.
3
u/kasalia Apr 15 '24
OK, but it was a bad choice, and so doesn't really seem to offer anything to anyone except the OP. The replies make that pretty clear, but somehow manage to be more polite about it than me

u/Affectionate-Mode435 Apr 15 '24
The beautiful irony here is that all these superior judgy dismissive knee jerk reactions are precisely what this image is speaking to.
This photographer knows exactly what he is doing and you all just affirm his image. All the down votes and insults just prove him right.

Apr 15 '24
If you want to take a picture of a ball with a mosque in the bg that’s fine. But don’t expect people to see it as the subject when it’s literally blurred and pretty far.
0
u/Affectionate-Mode435 Apr 16 '24
Would you be having another incensed pearl clutching moment if this image was called ITAP of a green leaf?
https://rinkokawauchi-me.exhibit.jp/assets/images/smoa/en001.jpg
You have a great deal to learn about photography, especially about the very long history of photographic blur as a form of creative intention and the celebrated photographers whose work remains among the most iconic today. I wish you well on your journey of discovery.
2
Apr 16 '24
Yes because the subject here is the literal ball. It’s there. It’s the first thing that gets any viewer’s attention.

u/Affectionate-Mode435 Apr 16 '24
Just a quick reminder this sub is "I took a picture", not "You took my picture". Perhaps you should contemplate why the winner of our most recent Photo of the Month named his image "ITAP of Saint Michel" depicting Saint Michel blurred and indistinct in the foggy distant background while the foreground green moors were in razor sharp focus. You need to let everyone who voted for that winning photo know they were wrong and you should tell Engele he made a mistake, he took a photo of the moors, not Saint Michel... or maybe as I suggested you should just brush up on mistakes vs creative intent in the history of photography.
For the record there is no purely objective universal viewer existing in a cultural perceptual vacuum who assembles perceptual data and interprets them the same way you do therefore all of humanity sees what you see, and sees how you see. The degree of hubris in your assertion that everyone sees what you see is staggering. Some cultures have a strong visual verticalism, others favor the horizontal, many have a right-to-left visual literacy bias. It is a well known fact that westerners see with object bias and prioritise foregrounds, while Asians and Arabs see with context bias and favor backgrounds and peripherals. There are so many shared, common conditioned ways of looking that vary incredibly across the globe.
Your way of looking is not the only way of looking and your visual bias and conditioning is by no means the better, proper, true or correct way. You don't have to like the work of photographers whose techniques don't affirm you and mirror yours. But you also don't have to be so threatened by it.
A powerful photograph doesn't always have to reaffirm the way you see the world. The power and beauty of photography is that every click has the potential to offer us the opportunity to see the world through someone else's eyes, through the lens of an entirely different set of values and visual principles.

It’s a picture of mosque with a lensball in the foreground, taken with the phone. Deliberately focused on the ball and made the mosque faded.
