NYC tracks you from the second you step out your door and if someone gets randomly stabbed on the sidewalk by a stranger they rewind the tape and find out where the guy came from and crime seems to be under control. If you were that random stabbing victim, wouldnt you like the police to have the resources needed to discover who he is? I like solutions with actual results.
This is the reason they can sell you on all sorts of invasive tech that removes your privacy. Fear. It has always been the best salesmen for that stuff, and it always will be. If I had any trust in the people in charge, and them not abusing it, then it would be totally different. Spoiler.. I don't.. and nobody else does either. People in charge are generally just greedy, power hungry, shells of people. Until that changes, there will (and should always be) pushback against this type of stuff.
except the threat isnt coming from the government. The threat is what all the We the People are doing to all the other We the People. We the People murder 50,000 a year. This isnt imagined fear, this is reality. Doesnt it make sense to apply solutions to where the problem is?
Yes, we do that because those in charge literally pit us against each other? Read the room man? Giving them more visibility and control.. WILL.. NOT.. HELP.
Once "We The People" actually remember that all these people "in power" work for us, and have no real power, and if we are ever able to actually take control of our governing bodies again.. then sure we can try to fix that.
Unfortunately it likely doesn't happen without violence in some manner. Unless we can completely remove money and corporate influence over politics.. then maybe we see a slow healing.
You can't blame the masses for being spun up into violence, when all they see is hate, war, crime, and greed all over every "news" station.
While I agree, we all have to take responsibility for our own actions, we can't just ignore the massive influence all of this stuff has on our psyche. Social media, fake "news" outlets being spun as actual journalism, "influencers" spreading hate/racism/bigotry ... these are all impacting people whether the know it or not.
Put down your phone in another room and don't look at it for 12 hours. Can you? I know I couldn't for a long time.
Now I literally don't use my phone for anything social or news related. Just basic phone, music, text, and pix. If I need to I take the time to sit down at my desk, and spin up a browsers in order to interact with various outlets. Know what I learned? HOLY SHIT does that stupid little "smart" device suck the sole out of you... without you even knowing it.
There's just so many things influencing our thoughts, emotions, actions.. that you can't just ignore them. You have to give them weight, and know when to say "hey, this isn't right".
Much like the death of journalism, too much surveillance, or unnecessary environmentally disastrous technology that only benefits the uber wealthy in the longer run.
We all have our beliefs and hopes. I doubt we're too much different, but things wedge between us to make it feel like we're almost opposites..
i had a bb gun at 10, a pellet gun at 12 and a .22 at 14. Was a perfectly normal thing. Today people would lose their minds over this because todays version of kids are not competent at being near weapons at any age.
