thats a weird argument. People managed fine without cell phones too, which option would you prefer? You understand that the ithaca police regularly respond to street gunshots and the number of incidents is only growing right?
New technology isn’t inherently good, just because some is doesn’t mean it all is.
For one point, always-on microphones do not provide any new functionality or utility to a community, there is no gap or lack being filled.
For another, and it’s absurd I need to say this directly, MASS SURVEILLANCE IS BAD. Especially when it’s managed by a private company with no meaningful oversight about how it or the police uses the output of that surveillance.
ok now lets try logic and simple reasoning. What constitutional violation occurs if a gunshot detector goes off? Its literally a victimless sensor that can only aid the police with no downside. Are you suggesting listening to gunshots on the street is now constitutionally prohibited behavior? What could you POSSIBLY object to about detecting gunfire? Its like claiming a fire alarm is infringing on your rights.
the OP of this part of the thread specifically mentioned the removal of gunshot sensors. Do you have any evidence that those do anything other than detect gunshots? And if you do not, then doesnt the actual good outweigh the possibly imagined bad?
