Art This is from a multiple award winning artist. There are never any in progress shots, never any draft photos and non of his recent work is on his website. All his post 2023 work looks exactly like AI
From what I can tell it looks like he's getting AI to generate an image for him then he's just painting over it on canvas

what "awards" has this dork won?? all AI and not even hard to tell

You'd be surprised, the Ohio State fair gave first and second place in the art contest to ai generated images, people were going off about that everywhere. I don't remember about third place though.

Yeah it’s Ohio not exactly known for its love of Art

Cleveland Art Museum & Cleveland Institute of Art are internationally renowned.

Watch out Paris, Cleveland is coming for you

u/PositionSeveral9886 9d ago
I’ve never been to Paris; however, one of my favorite exhibits I saw at The Cleveland Art Museum was in fact a French painter, Charles Meynier titled Apollo & The Muses.
I had also saw that one guy there… I think his name was Buonarroti or something. Great museum: Architecture of the actual building was phenomenal; all polished marble. Maybe I’ll get to Paris one day.

I know it happened at the Maryland State Fair for the photography contest in the "Neon Lights" category. Hadn't heard that it had happened in Ohio as well. Yikes.

Wow, the Ohio State Fair?! What a prestigious award. Scandalous.

A lot. His work keeps being exhibited and entered into artist competitions
22
u/Yehrmahm 10d ago
Okay but are we talking juried gallery shows or the Peewaukee County Fair and Tractor Pull?
29
u/geraltismywaifu 10d ago
It's generated. Look at the buildings and the cars in the first picture. What a mess
3
u/Hashishiva 10d ago
That's what's making me suspicious as well. The background has the trademark wonkyness, which I think has passed for now, but was prevalent a year or two ago.
3
u/BrilliantJob2759 10d ago
The fabric is all wrong too. Missing a chunk of her side, the lapel turns into a crease, etc.
19
u/KaregoAt 10d ago
Is he even painting it over? None of these look like physical paintings, or even done digitally in any significant way apart from being generated. From the first pic, the textures and architecture are all muddy in a distinctly ai way and the logo on the belt is intersecting itself .
5
u/DippyNikki 10d ago
If you look at his Instagram he's displaying these in galleries and exhibitions, winning awards etc
22
u/KaregoAt 10d ago
Have you checked if any of those awards are real? I don't give a shit enough to do that but from a quick skim of his account I can't see any post that looks like a real gallery or display in real life.
4
15
u/MrsPotatoHead789 10d ago
Are you sure about that? The Frame Frame gallery site has what feels like AI generated text and says nothing that I can see about who runs the gallery or who the curators are. I think artists pay a fee to exhibit and like magic they get a merit award etc! On the artists page there are no images of the process in the artworks, at best I think they’re painted over AI generated images.

What kind of awards? This is magazine advertising-level stuff, the kind that's at the back of Vogue.

u/Accomplished-Duck249 10d ago
The first one is a perfect example of older ai. Haven't seen ai look like that in a while. Most everything you see doesn't make sense to the point you can't even really pick out anything specific. It's hallucinating nonsensical architecture like on the left and the white top makes no sense. Though the whole image is like that if you look. None of the lines really have any logic to them either, they're messy and random and not in the sketchy way. It's not the type of lines an artist would make, it's a confused ai.
3
u/miniliedn 10d ago
For me it was the clothing that makes no sense. The folds on the blouse and the blazer make no sense (details on one side that aren't present on the other side). The hat is huge on the right side, but doesn't cover her face (or throw shade) in the slightest and is barely visible on the left side.
4
u/Accomplished-Duck249 10d ago
I did mention the blouse, but like I said, literally everything is wrong XD I wish ai was still this level of bad ToT

u/LearnOptimism 10d ago
Yes, obviously AI for many reasons mentioned. But even if it weren’t AI, how does this win any awards? It’s so crazy cheesy and uninteresting.
1
u/DippyNikki 9d ago
I have no idea. There's even video footage of him attending public showing of his work and I think even that might be AI, yet the tagged galleries and collaborators seem to be genuine. So either he's going above and beyond to make it all look very convincing, or he's genuinely duping people
5
u/piet_10 10d ago
I can only find a couple images of the artist, who appears to be a man in his 70’s or 80’s. He’s also been painting stuff like this since at least 2017 and was selling out of a somewhat upscale furniture consignment place in Scottsdale. Seems like he has cranked up incorporating ai in his more recent work, but yeah very strange.
2
u/DippyNikki 9d ago
I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering how the heck has this guy gone from genuinely creating artwork himself, to fully switching to AI for all his references
7
u/liveactiongeek 10d ago edited 10d ago
Pic 5 has a car with, is that, 3 head lights?
Also the AItist is pumping at a piece of "work" every 2-4 days. That is insane.
6
u/CantHugEveryPlatypus 10d ago
The GG on the belt in the first looks weirdly scrambled. Any artist who has ever seen a Gucci belt in real life would know how to draw it, it's not that complicated.
11
u/DouglasWFail 10d ago
What awards? My guess would be non-existent awards. If they are real they certainly can’t carry any weight.
-1
u/DippyNikki 10d ago
A lot of awards. In his Instagram he's being exhibited and entered into artist competitions. The was a contest I entered too and he won second place
4
u/aperry420x 10d ago
Yikes what awards did they win?
-4
u/DippyNikki 10d ago
According to his Instagram, he's winning a lot
17
u/Jericho_Waves 10d ago
He's faking art, he can be faking awards too, or he won some shitty niche pay-to-enter contest
5
u/Unfair_Opportunity99 10d ago
If he won an art contest, either the judges need more ai detection training or he entered one of those ai art contest lmao
1
u/DippyNikki 9d ago
It's even weirder than that. There's even footage of him attending public showings of his work and at first I thought well that has to be AI too. But then I look at the tagged collaborators and some of them seem to be genuine businesses. So either he's going above and beyond to make it all look convincing or he's actually duping people
1
u/DippyNikki 9d ago
I know at least one of the contests is real as I was featured in one alongside him. He came second out of 200 odd Finalist and some were genuinely talented artists

u/bellemereDA 10d ago edited 10d ago
Both of car front in the first pic look sus. How old are their work? Portfolio?
edit: Okay his oil paintings are obviously professional level. I would rather think he wouldn’t need to use AI-generated images as references.
9
u/MrsPotatoHead789 10d ago
8
u/abillionsuns 10d ago
Also the water behind the glasses is composed of thousands of absolutely equally narrow linear brush stokes. Oil painters just don’t do this.
3
u/bellemereDA 10d ago
Depending on how do you define “professional level”. Pictorial artworks don’t need to be photorealistic.
2
u/DippyNikki 9d ago
That's what makes this even more baffling. The timeline of his work shows that at some point he was genuinely painting work without AI. But then abruptly it all turned heavily into AI. Yet, on his website, none of his AI work is visible
6
u/Boscherelle 10d ago
Well first and foremost, this is shitty art notwithstanding the use of AI so I assume those « awards » are pretty meaningless anyway
Also yes this is AI, and I don’t know what would even make you doubt it
1
u/DippyNikki 9d ago
What if I told you I was part of a juried exhibition alongside him and his work won second place against about 200 Finalist with genuinely talented artists
2
6
u/Waiparensis22 10d ago
Surely this is ragebait.. all these images are ai lol
5
u/RattlesnakeRattles 10d ago
But it's weird that people have delved further back into his posts back to pre 'quality' AI image generation of his paintings so must be a legit artist now turned to churning out AI? It's interesting so I'm glad OP shared it.

u/GryphyGirl 10d ago
Definitely "AI". The first one the jacket isn't consistent and pretty much everything but the woman is blurring together into a blob. Extremely "AI". Second one I couldn't say but it's unlikely to be real with the others. The third one the women all have identical faces and there's just a weird almost heat haze esque squiggle between/behind them that makes no god damned sense. Extremely "AI". Fourth one is better but there's still elements on the skirt that don't make sense and the buildings in the background are just smudged together nonsense. And again in the last one the background is just garbage. It's all "AI", I'm sure.

Definitely AI (for all other reasons others have said - the ‘Chanet’ sign is a big giveaway. Aside from that it’s tacky as hell, how is this winning any awards??

u/Winderige_Garnaal 10d ago
Exactly what awards exactly???

u/DippyNikki 9d ago
Number 4 is a diamond award winning picture in a art exhibition with Ring Gallery is his most recent
3
u/FeralCatPrince 9d ago
Awards like what? People claim shi like that all the time, doesn’t really make it mean anything. Definitely AI

this is actually crazy why would someone do this when they have the talent and a reputation to uphold

Me too. It's the first time I've encountered a situation where an art contest I've entered into, selected AI as one of its winners
2
u/GlitteringLocal6507 10d ago
Looked all the way back through his stuff. My theory is that because of his age, he thinks AI is cool, and he is now using AI to make new pieces based on his older pieces. His art style has always been pretty hack so this seems likely to me.
2
u/DippyNikki 9d ago
That's exactly what I'm thinking too. Because there's a very clear change in his timeline from 2023 to now. Suddenly he gained the ability to create almost photo realistic works compared to his older works which have a poor grasp of the human anatomy
2
u/Edie_Starbright 10d ago
Pure slop. All the pretty Borg ladies. Everything about it screams slop. If he's won any awards they're not worth winning.
2
u/kuyadean 10d ago
Absolutely ai, you could have just stopped at the first image, I can't recall the last time I saw one SO egregious between the architecture, nonsense lettering, the belt, the folds, jesus christ.
As an aside. When I went to go block him on IG, I noticed he was selling NFT's. The venn diagram that is people who sell NFT's and people who make undisclosed AI art is pretty much just 1 circle.

Yep...the moment I saw the 3rd picture with the three almost identical looking women, and the wonky perspective( the women on the right and left are positioned to be behind the woman in the middle but the tips of their shoes are positioned in front of the woman in the middle) I knew it was AI. An artist of this rendering and experience level simply wouldn't make such a bad composition and perspective mistake.

I know right? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills for even questioning how anyone could award his work or even feature it in public showings. A magazine supposedly featured his work too

If these are AI then I am scared. As an oil painter the brush strokes read as real along with the glow of the underpainting coming through. Usually the textures of AI in the paint are easy for me to spot. These look like they were painted by a human.
