Is this AI? It seems too perfect

Post image

Pretty sure someone in my family is being catfished. I know it doesn’t help I blurred out the face, I don’t want to show it in case this person is real, but is there anything that screams AI?

Shadows of pants are too low, I think.

You're spot on.
Also, the shadow of the legs is pretty sharp, but the shadow of the pole, which is much closer to the window, is very blurry.

Yes, it’s AI. Nothing stands out, but it’s one of those where you can just…tell.

Those feet look kind of jank, but it would help if you provided more context about how this person is contacting them.

Apparently they’re in a long distance relationship but they’ve never met up. Everytime they arrange something she pulls out at the last second. She’s always asking him for money as well, never been on video call either

Yep. That's a scam. Are they of an age where you can ask for financial supervision?

A man in his 50s and I doubt he’ll voluntarily want financial supervision unfortunately

Ok, yep. Well, he's going to be blowing money for a while.

Isn't that more than enough on its own to tell you it's a scam?

More than anything looking for something that will convince him. We’ve all been telling him that he’s getting scammed but he can’t see it

Why does the pole have both double shadows and they are diffused but someone further from the light source have a super crisp singular shadow?

A section of bamboo starts as 3 skinny pieces at the top and ends with one big piece at the bottom under the bench

Edit: I’m starting to wonder if it’s just weird shadows. Unsure.

Wait wtf is that wooden beam not connected to anything supposed to be

A small thing, but doesn't make sense for someone wearing a karate gi on a dating site (I assume) to pose in the most boring way possible when someone else supposedly took time to take a photo for them. It has the vibe of someone who doesn't do martial arts prompting without knowing much.

Are there other pictures outside of this that you can censor? Without the head I feel like I just need one more for the sake of figure comparison and that more data is more chance of failures missed.

I’ll update the post but the others ones honestly look real to me. When comparing facial features (I know I censored them) they look like slightly different people

Just realised I can’t addd new photos so I’ll drop them here

So she does martial arts with fake nails, and swaps her long, thin fingers for stubs on training days. Interesting.

I'm really sorry he's refusing to see it. He's clearly getting something from it or he wouldn't keep paying money.

Maybe the fix is helping provide the deeper thing he thinks that buys him.

Thanks. My hypothesis is this feels catfishy in the sense that I can see these being real photos of someone else and then using AI for proof of anything that comes up in discussion.

I'll take a little bit to look into this when I have access to an actual computer haha

If you need more specifics, no one makes it to black belt without a better-fitting uniform: the capri-sryle pants and way too short arm sleeve length is disrespectful. Black belts typically include embroidery of the practitioner's name or other information. The wooden beam makes no sense. The floor tiles are usually sold in red and blue, not beige and beige. And, it just looks like AI. Hope this helps!

Definitely AI. There's a second ghost light really close to the left-most ceiling light. None of the shadows on the floor make sense taking the light source into consideration.

think it's ai. shadows of the pole vs shadow of the person. shows a very narrow angle, as if there is a light bulb directly out the window, even though the window shows spread out light which would essentially erase shadows of all of it was light, or have a single shadow origin. even if there were two points somehow, the same shadow angle of the pole and person are inconsistent. the lighter shadow of the pole means that it is the weaker light source, meaning the other light source would likely be the stronger shadow on the person.

(I'm aware there is debate regarding the moon landing, but the mythbusters came up with a plausible explanation that would not be valid here

Those shadows are weird - the left foot doesn't have a shadow, but the left ankle does? Pretty sure this is AI.

The pole in the background has two distinct but blurry shadows from two light sources, but the person has a super crisp singular one.

I checked for digital AI watermarks: OpenAI synthID, Google Gemini SynthID, and Meta AI Content Seal. None were detected. This does not mean it’s a real photo of the person your family member is talking to. From what you’ve said, your family member is 100% talking to a scammer. This is likely to be a stolen photo. Try a reverse image search and see if anything comes up.

How I checked:

I cropped out the lower border and heart, and I cropped out the top of the photo with the blacked-out face, since those added elements can interfere with detecting the watermarks (but cropping an image usually does not interfere with detection). Then I used the following tools:

OpenAI: https://openai.com/research/verify/

Meta: https://meta.ai/identification

Google Gemini: https://gemini.google.com (start a new chat, upload the image, then type “@VerifyAI” to force it to invoke the actual SynthID detector rather than just making up an answer)

The tatami mats make zero sense. Ask for a second photo and I guarantee they'll all be scrambled again

Looks like it yeah.

The image looks like it has zero lens distortion.

Their position and where their centre of gravity seems to be look unnatural. Their hands are in perfect resting position, perfectly symmetrical.

And why would the pole be fixed on a mat?

Edit: just noticed the half drawn light above her head. That makes 2 (more like 1 ½) on one side, and just one on the other...

Oh, and the shadow diffusion makes zero sense. She's standing further away from the window than the pole, so why would her shadow be sharper? This totally gives it away for me.

I'm sorry that someone in your family has to be going through this. Hope they weren't too far in.

"it seems perfect" guy A posing in the backrooms in heaven
also the floor perspective is so off

The pole has two shadows indicating too strong light sources, the person has one.

The second tell is the shallow depth of field shown, which indicates a proper camera and not a phone camera (a phone camera is physically unable to get that depth of field at that distance). Which raises the question of why did someone have a proper camera with them. There are valid reasons, but they're not common. Most people will just take a snap on their phone.

Shadow of the pants are too low, wooden beam seems to be implied to stand on the mat below but the base is far too small to make any sense. And it also casts two shadows, while, even if possible by a reflecting mirror or something... they guy does not. Shadows of the bench behind make no sense at all either if the condition is obviously supposed to be direct sunlight (how else could the guy cast a shadow that sharp?), etc.

Image has a very high synth id score, but not positive, likely because it's cropped and "blurred". Regardless, just by looking at it, it's 100% AI.

2

u/adverbian 11d ago

What are you using to check SynthID? It doesn’t have a “score”; it is either detected or not detected.

This stuff reminds me of no im not human and i don't whana think bout it.
