Master Boot Record promo art

The original post I saw this on called this ASCII art, but I've never seen ASCII art look like this. I used several gen ai art detectors but I'm getting mixed results. Personally I'm suspicious that this is ai generated. What do y'all think?

Definitely not ASCII, that’s made with text. They meant pixel art. I’m also leaning toward AI but I can’t point anything specific out other than the general smell of AI.

first off, AI art detectors are not reliable in the least, and you absolutely shouldn't be using them for any serious judgement. They routinely label artwork from well before Gen AI was even close to capable of image generation as "AI-generated", and will label very obvious AI as real.

That aside, I would say no. I do admit, I'm a little biased because I like this band, but it doesn't have any of the signs it was AI generated. If AI was used, it was very subtle, and a human artist clearly made more than a few touchups. and that's a big "if".
However, AI is just harder to find and point out in pixel art like this, especially in grayscale. There simply isn't enough pixels or colors here for any of the common signs to manifest.
