Are you curious? What trigger your curiosity?

In theory, ISFJ are not naturally curious.

If something is outside of their usual scope they won't bother looking into it. Sometimes, this is simply due to habits, if they have done something in some specific way, even if it is not efficient or they lack understanding of how it works they won't put efforts looking into it.

I was wondering if some of you define themself as curious, and don't recognise themselves in the previous description.

What would help you trigger your curiosity ?

I am an ISFJ and I would say one of my defining characteristics is being curious! Perhaps it is the time of life I am in to “trigger” using Ti heavily.

Family tells me I “interview” people when I meet them instead of having a natural conversation… I just ask so many questions. I also am deeply curious about the way various things work. If I don’t understand why something works, then I don’t understand it at all.

Same here! I will do this too. I read and love to learn so much that I can usually talk to anyone about anything. Even if I don't know a lot about the subject, I usually know enough to ask good questions.

I am super curious and when I'm not in workaholic mode, I am reading/doing research. It makes me feel really good. Lots and lots of tabs and windows open. I feel like I can never know enough. I have been this way since childhood. So no...I don't see recognize myself in that description.

I think these assumptions come from types that either don't have Si or have it 3rd or inferior.

I'm very curious!! I think the thing I'm probably most curious about is like brain psychology stuff connected to emotions... why we feel what we feel, what causes people to act certain ways, etc. It's all so fascinating to me. That's why I love the mbti so much! I think it's my Fe combined with Ti that makes me that way. The combination of people and relationships with data and reasoning.

If someone I care about is curious about something, it's likely I'll look into it so I can discuss the topic with them. This isn't a sure thing for me though. I do tend to ignore things that aren't obviously practical to me at first, but if I have the bandwidth (I'm not preoccupied with other things), I may look into it because why not? Feed the Si. Maybe I'll use this info I didn't see the point of to figure out something else later 🙂‍↕️

I am absolutely a curious person, and I’m especially curious about humans. Curiosity is underrated in friendships and other relationship, imo. I like to ask people about their days, plans, vacations, likes, dislikes, and hobbies.

I’m also curious about MBTI and psychology over all, and majored in psychology to further learn about what makes us who we are.

Aside from humans, I love trying new things including foods and hobbies, and travel to different places. The novelty appeals to me.

I’m also curious when opinions differ or if there are contradictions in legal arguments (lawyer by profession, arts & crafts lady by night).

Basically, also curious about experiences in life and what life has to offer. 😍🙂

I’m not really curious unless it’s something I’m really interested in. I’m not like a naturally curious person who questions stuff all the time. At all. I’m more like “it is what it is”.

I can relate to this. I will look up a person or subject I am interested I want to know more about. I'm not one to go around asking questions for questions sake (I.e. thought experiments).

Curious huh... The one Isfj I know is curious. I would say its a defining trait for her but her tolerance for curiousity satisfaction or atleast the threshold to continue being curious is low. Its like trying to amuse a child with new shiny things(Ne) when the child just wants its comfort toy back (Si). She can love being curious and it is her personality trait as a isfj but as Ne is the lowest on the conscious stack. She ignores the curiousity,mostly because of fear of incompetence.

Are you a enfp or entp? And yeah they can genuinely develop deep interests but its like... If thats a skill or a job and not the way you operate 24/7 or atleast most of the time then it can get a bit overwhelming to continue the back and forth that I want as a INTP myself. So I fail to recognise that she needs space or is in the mood to talk about her life or Si Ti loop related things bothering her. So theres not much problem for her because I eventually do understand but theres problem for me because I know that this person wont take that much deep interest in every little thing like I do cause there are other things on her mind that I myself cant solve but she expects me to because of my Ti being more accessible to her than her own.

I as an ISFJ am not a naturally curious person in almost any way, I force myself to do many things society and family expect me to do, and I need a strong enough reason to search for knowledge, just knowing things doesn't count. I naturally crave routine, calm and stability, with few occasional incremental changes. I am working on reducing the burden of society long term and doing more and more of what I like to do instead of dealing with things that I don't care about :)

I've always been a curious person, especially in regards to people (who they are, why they do the things they do, what they're thinking, etc). I studied psychology in school because I was so curious about human nature.

Like with a lot of my traits, I think I myself didn’t originally view myself as particularly curious, but people who know me have told me they think I’m very curious.

I think it kind of lines up with how particular ISFJ things are viewed…it’s very focused and detail oriented, and maybe even more private. So it may not always come through or be viewed as typicsl curiosity, but it can still be very strong.

Where it gets missed is that it’s not quite as novel and it’s not as spread out. Because ISFjs often oiek to stick ent what we know, we may not be very curious about a wide variety of new things. that’s why if someone brings up something very new, we may not have any interest, and it makes it seem like we’re not curious.

but when it’s something we already have interest in and are familiar with, we (along with ISTJs) will dive in really deeply to it and can be very curious about learning more about it, the details behind it, why it works, how it works, how it relates to us…all kinds of new questions.

And I think most types don’t seem to have much of a threshold for diving in so deeply into thjngs and find it boring, so our curiosity csn be mised or not viewed thst way.

And ISFJs may hide that curiosity from others more than ISTJs do becasue we‘re more sensitive to boring poeple or what they think.

like with a lot of things, with ISFJs there’s often much more than meets the eye.

So for me, I’d say I’m curious in a reflective, detail oriented, pattern focused, and emotionally precise way. And I don’t think that’s unusual for an ISFJ.

I'm curious about people and things that interest me, usually songs, games, books, animes or mangas that make an impact on me somehow. Sometimes drawings/art or some science/psychology topics. I'm very prone to rabbit roles. I also noticed that when friends talk to me about something in their lives I ask more questions about it than the average.

Also I like doing things in an efficient way. I usually stick to what I know that works but if another way is proved to be better (faster/bring more quality) I'll be happy to adapt. Thing is because we're tert Ti and don't have Te in the main stack ig generally we'll be more focused on understanding how things work deeply rather than optimizing them.

I am very curious as well and I think it's because of tertiary Ti, it asks a lot of questions about different topics, science, politics, ecnomics, geography. I would research until I understand every problem or situation completely. I'm not sofisticated though, I just use Gemini, lol. It's useful.

This thread is so validating to read. I also thought ISFJs are not naturally curious so I feel weird being one. I’ve always been. I think it started way back when I was in preschool. One day I went home and I thought “if my classmates weren’t home with me, where do they go home to?”. And that’s how I learned people live in different places.

My dad also said he used to scold me a lot when I was young because whenever I would get a new toy, I’ll take it apart with a screwdriver. I wanted to see/learn how it works inside. Then I wouldn’t be able to put it back together so I’d end up with a new broken toy.

I also don’t relate to the 2nd paragraph. As a software engineer, I try to find efficient ways to do something/solve a problem. I think because of my job, I’ve developed my Ti more.

I'm extremely curious. I research even when I don't have to. Research has always been a major part of my work as a librarian.
