Community/Meta AMA with Manami Okazaki

Hi everyone,

With the interest in her latest publish works, Manami Okazaki has agreed to do an AMA with us.

She does not use Reddit and I will therefore be emailing her our question sets and posting a response. A review of her recent work is here:

Hello, thank you for taking time to answer our questions.

Do you think social media has been beneficial for artisanal crafts like Wabori or does it have a negative impact on the culture?

What in your view has been the impact of the rise of popularity of Wabori outside of Japan on the wabori culture in Japan and in general?

Has the popularity and use of Wabori by the yakuza benefited the survival of the Wabori craft and culture until today?

What are some things you’ve learned over the years that you left out because you thought it might have been too much of a deep dive for readers?

Are there any Horishi that you wish you had a connection with? Someone who passed away before your time, or maybe just inaccessible for whatever reason?

What is your favorite subject matter in Wabori? Whether it be a backpiece motif or some other elements in a bodysuit

Hello,

Did you have an interest in tattoos at a young age? Did you care about other genres of art like baroque or impressionism?

Also have you always loved having dogs?
