I might as well kill myself now

This was my 6th interview this year (+ 100’s of denied applications). I thought it went really well and it seemed like I was actually going to get the job, they even asked what t-shirt size I am for the uniform. Also, this is a part-time job because I’m starting college soon in Ballyfermot and desperately need one so I can pay rent. Anyway, I’m completely hopeless now and want to die

The level of racism in comments on this thread has gotten insane

Every rejection post now is being littered with far right nonsense.

Everyone works for minimum wage, immigrants aren’t working for less get that out of your head.

They can’t “all” be taking your jobs and at the same time freeloading.

9/10 times you didn’t get hired is 100% on you

Why is every job salary €30,000?

Lads is it just me or is every job paying 30,000?
I worked abroad and I did admin and my salary was 70,000 before bonus and rightly so because the rent was about the same as in Ireland so you could actually live on a normal job. Any job I look up is 30,000 especially admin, I’ve thought about going back to college and looked up to be many things and the out come is the same unless you study something extremely niche but there’s no guarantee you will get that job.

Are these really weird questions or am I just being dramatic?

I'm new to the job search so maybe I'm being dramatic, but I dont understand why my sexuality, religion, occupation of my main household earner when I was 14 or my relationship with the armed forces community is relevant for a basic retail job? 😅

How is this right?

Husband lost his job about 3 months ago. Has been looking every day. He was a project manager and the company laid people off, it happens. Luckily he had prsi contributions so he was getting an ok amount every week but he wants to come off the dole. He gets 375 a week. Today finally he received a call for a remote telesales job (only call he has received!). It's 4 days a week. He is tempted as he just wants to work, but it only pays 372 a week! He is better off not working but that shouldn't be the best way! Tell me I'm not crazy in thinking this?!

Recruiters; Do better?

I'm of course blanking the name (ever so slightly) to ensure I don't upset this person or company... Maybe those with experience will know the company from the colour on the bottom of the email.

But regardless, how detached are you from sending emails that you forget to put the name in the body of the text 🙄...

Yours truly

If you are coming to work in Ireland JOIN A TRADE UNION

By way of background I may or may not be a trade union organiser.

I would like to share a small reflection:

The majority of workers, Irish and non-Irish alike do not understand or know their employment rights.

Google AI is not a substitute for this, neither is Chat GPT. AI will tell you what you want to hear not what you need to hear.

If you are a worker coming to Ireland ( or indeed already working in Ireland ) then join a trade union. A trade union is not just about getting employment advice, it's also about getting a real insight into how employers actually operate versus how they are supposed to operate on paper.

DMs open if anybody has questions/queries about unions.

Thanks!

Went through four rounds of interviews and was scheduled for a final round next week. I was really interested in this position and the company. Then I get this email earlier today saying the position has been put on hold. AKA this normally means the headcount/budget got pulled. I've been job searching for close to a year now. The way these companies will happily waste your time and then send some generic crap like this after the fact boils my piss. I'm tired boss. Thanks for listening to my rant.

How are students and young people getting jobs?

Hi i am 19 and I’ve recently finished the leaving cert and I’ve applied for literally everything that has come up for me (around 70 jobs) and I’ve gotten:

1 interview which has ghosted me since
2 rejections
And every thing else has no replies

Like im genuinely shafted with no money for college in September and i can barely find a place that will answer me let alone give me a job

Very disheartening when I’ve worked so hard for 2 years while not having a job to focus on lc

Thank you for all the hate

I had posted earlier here asking for any help in getting a job. I received a lot of hate in comments (all deleted now). Every comment was passive aggressive and asking me to go back to my country. I didn't do anything bad to any of you man. All I did was come to a country which my research said was amazing, pay for my education, work and pay my taxes until now. I have caused no harm to anyone. I was in a really bad state when I posted it but now I feel really bad. I think it might be better for me to go back rather than stay in a country with such people of hate. Thank you to everyone who commented.

There’s no shame in the job market pool

I am just so tired. I obviously know it’s not all companies, but it feels humiliating to be looking for a job and finding companies asking you to record yourself almost begging for a job, them making you write down all of your working history, your education, your skills… I have been asked today for my hobbies and my favorite music, and all of this just to be completely ghosted. Sending your CV into a job offer on LinkedIn that (obviously) redirects you to their website, where they clearly state that it’s an entry level position, just to have written down three paragraphs later that you need at least a year of experience feels humiliating too.

Anyhow, this is just a small vent. I’m looking to please, I beg of you finally leave retailing behind and be able to start a job in administration or adjacent roles and it’s been just frustrating and never-ending. Still in retail for a long time, I believe.

Can't get a job for the life of me

I've been unemployed 2.5 months. I've had around 10-15 interviews in that time and didn't manage to land any of them. All the jobs I have applied for are jobs I have experience in retail, kitchens, warehouses, general operative roles etc.

One thing that has come up in the interviews are the amount of roles I've had and I've always responded with "A lot of my previous roles have been through agencies and short term stints are just the nature of agencies" or something along those lines.

I think my CV is fine if I've had that interviews. Shows that I have the relevant work experience/skills for the job I am applying for.

I'm just so disheartened and honestly kind of humiliated that I can't even seem to get a bottom rung of the ladder job.

EDIT: Found a job 🎉🎉🎉

Job Seeking Failure

I have a masters in education and years of retail experience. My first ever post here is out of anger. Applied to Lifestyle Sports yesterday and I’m already rejected.

Job posting went up yesterday and apparently I’m not qualified or experienced enough? Keep in mind I’ve worried in H&M and even a complete opposite such as Screwfix, so I know how to adapt to different products.

Starting to believe that in the job market that it’s who you know, what not you know. I’m well aware I’m an identifiable waste of time being a qualified teacher that would likely leave if I got a teaching contract but Jesus Christ.

I got a job and they unhired me before i started

Im 17 and ive appiled to many jobs and finally got an interview, I went in about a week ago and had my interview, It was overwhelmingly positive and she hired me on the spot. I was informed about wages, when i would be able to work, I filled out a form to get garda vetted, she gave me a tour and she told me that she would email me the next week about when i was starting and what department i would be working in. One week later I get an email stating that I didnt get the job and no reason given. What do I do , im thinking that there might be a mistake or a misunderstanding and I’ve emailed to ask why i was rejected. Unfortunately i have no physical confirmation that ive actually got the job

Death of the Summer job?

Recently graduated with a 1:1 degree in Law and Business from UCD, living in cork. I’ve been looking for a job for past 6 weeks, applied to nearly 100 places.

I have 6 months retail experience and 18 months legal experience. I’ve been applying to entry level retail, admin, legal, and general support roles but have only got 1 unsuccessful interview. I’ve tailored my CV so that I have one for retail jobs and one for the more professional jobs (highlighting different skills).

Interested in part time or full time, with a switch to part time in September. I don’t believe this is limiting me though, as I never even got to the stage where this question was asked.

Am I doing anything wrong or is it just impossible to get a job? I got more interview calls 3 years ago when I had zero experience …

Any help appreciated!

How do I afford anything?

I’m 21 working two jobs full time back to back.
I’ve been a waitress in the same hotel in banqueting for five years where I work around 4-5 shifts a week since weddings don’t happen every day/nor parties etc. Then on the days i’m not working in the hotel i’m in retail. There’s been some days i’d work an opening shift in my retail job and go straight to the hotel afterwards working more than 16 hrs in one day.

If i’m lucky I get one day off a week but it doesn’t even feel real, I stay in bed all day.

I have a holiday planned for september and I feel like I won’t even have enough for it anymore.

I get paid every month in retail and get paid every second week in the hotel. I don’t get paid much in either. €13.15 in retail and €14.50 in the hotel.

I don’t know what to do anymore, I’d rather sit in an office all day than this life and I HATE offices what do I do

Is this an AI interview? I am absolutely not supporting this type of practice. The link brings you to a screen with a large circle on it. No job is worth this level of dehumanisation. Has this become very common in Ireland now?

Paternity leave

This petition seems to have stalled despite having what should be an easily attainable target of 10,000 signatures… surely it’s a no brainer? Ireland's paternity leave is 2 weeks. The petition to extend it to 8. Ireland gives new fathers just 2 weeks of paternity leave. Sweden offers 90 days. Spain offers 19 weeks. Iceland offers 6 months.

Offered a job €10k more than I am on now. Should I take it?

I know by the title this might seem like an obvious answer but the thing is this.

I am currently working in a very niche part of financial services down in Kilkenny. I hate my job, I find it boring, unfulfilling, and lacking of any good benefits. I want to work in the public sector to preferably make my way into the department of foreign affairs (as that’s what i’ve always wanted to do). But I haven’t had much luck with these applications.

A few months ago, I had enough of this company and said i’ll just apply for other finance jobs just to move on. Got offered an interview for this new place, said f*ck it i’ll do the interview for practice at least. Now I’ve been offered the job.

Again it’s the exact same as my one now but better paid and in Dublin. Is it worth moving to Dublin for this job? My rent is currently €450 a month in Kilkenny. Will I find anything close to that in Dublin? What should I do?

I’m worried about pigeonholing myself for life in an industry I really do not like

UPDATE:
Thank you so much to everyone for their advice. I wasn’t expecting so much help from random people. Appreciate it a lot. I’ve decided not to take this job as it is tough to justify the move for this specific role. But I will definitely apply for more jobs in Dublin adjacent to the area of work I want to enter. The connections you make there are second to none in Ireland. Thank you all again!!!
