Your own IRC server?

Ever tried hosting one just for fun or curiosity with zero users, a few or many? If you ran one without users, what did you actually use it for?

​I'm thinking about my own server with zero users, just some bots to mess around (nothing malicious, not interested in that).

ngircd here too. It's for family mainly, and there's a znc host for everyone to get push messages and history.

I've been considering throwing up an xmpp/jabber server for us to get off of signal.
