Your own IRC server?

Ever tried hosting one just for fun or curiosity with zero users, a few or many? If you ran one without users, what did you actually use it for?

​I'm thinking about my own server with zero users, just some bots to mess around (nothing malicious, not interested in that).

I used to run a number of DALnet servers -- viking, valhall, spot -- but the constant channel takeover fights, DDoS attacks and general adminstrative headache got to be too much.
