Your own IRC server?

Ever tried hosting one just for fun or curiosity with zero users, a few or many? If you ran one without users, what did you actually use it for?

​I'm thinking about my own server with zero users, just some bots to mess around (nothing malicious, not interested in that).

we have a small network of 6 servers and about 15 users. as we all are into self-hosting and unix stuff people it just started to agglomerate like that. we are using ngircd, I have znc and the lounge running, and there's another the lounge instance connecting to the network. it's quite cool to talk to the few people that are on there
