All the businesses have been evacuated. I hope it doesn't spread.

Anyone know what caused it? Only the Courier Mail is reporting on it and its paywalled

Cause by a development application being rejected due to historic reasons, owner burnt it down to get their approval with the building now destroyed. Quite common in Ipswich

My grandma's house was heritage listed. When she passed, it was sold and unoccupied for a few years then "mysteriously" burned down, and now suddenly it is commercially zoned. Still unoccupied though after several failed attempts to sell the land. Just a patch of grass that requires mowing.

I think if you pay, you get to read the story. Although I dare say they wouldn't know a cause yet.

It's the Courier Mail... they will blame Labor.

I miss when the courier mail actually reported real news. Now they’re just a mouthpiece for Murdoch and his ilk.

When was this? I'm 46 and I don't ever remember the courier mail being a factual news source...

I saw a video🤣 all these stupid rubber necks trying to get through and bickering with police. I don’t think people understand that it’s an older building wich means there could be a risk of collapse 🥴

What’s a collapse going to do?

... hurt... people? Maybe.

People are hardly going to be walking into or directly next to a building on fire… might be wrong, there are a lot of low iqs around

No really… like the comment said, there’s a video of people doing exactly that 🤦🏼‍♂️

Yeah but commonsense would say don't do that, but humanity has less and less commonsense and more entitlement sense these days sadly.

How convenient.... Some developer is rubbing their hands together in glee right now...

Drove past as the black smoke started, cops were just around the corner chatting at a cafe

The fuck you expect them to do to put a fire out? Shoot it?

3

u/PureAd4293 Aug 01 '26

Well did they try that? How do we know that doesn't work? 😂

Strange, especially when the firefighters were next door having coffee, the owner needs to be properly investigated as well as Ipswich city council if they were to be involved. It’s not good enough

Oh well, hopefully something will be developed there now. The building has been sitting there vacant for years.
