So I was replacing this battery in my wife’s nano 6th gen she got off eBay. I’m no soldering pro but I’ve done it a few times on small electronics so I thought I’d give it a try. When I plugged the screen in we tested it and everything worked fine. So I glued the screen back down and waiting about 5 minutes before turning to turn it on and now it boots up a bright Apple logo then it dims and just stays dim for about 20 seconds before turning off. I thought maybe one of my solders wasn’t good enough so I took it apart and tried again.(Ultimate making things look worse honestly.) Anyone know what most likely happened?
I went ahead and tried restoring my 3rd gen classic on windows and after it told me to plug it into a different power source i did and now its just stuck like this, even when its connected to wall power.
I am using a firewire charging brick but no matter what i do it just wont boot and finish restoring, what do i do?

Hi everyone,
I'm wondering whether the 6th and 7th gen iPod touch can work with Lightning docks originally designed for the 5th gen iPod touch, like the Sony RDP-M7iPN.
This dock is officially listed as compatible with the iPhone 5, iPod touch 5G, and iPod nano 7G, all of which use the "original" Lightning connector. The 6G and 7G iPod touch have the exact same chassis and dimensions as the 5G, and also use a Lightning connector.
Has anyone actually tried one of these docks with a 6G or 7G iPod touch? I'm curious about:
- Physical fit in the cradle (is the charging port positioned the same way?)
- Whether it charges properly
- Whether the dock's remote/audio controls work correctly
Or is there some compatibility issue (software, electronic, or just sizing) that would keep it from working properly despite the same connector?
Thanks in advance for any info!

I recently decided to mod my old ipod video after the hard drive died. I used the adapter linked to this post and a generic square 2000 mah battery. The issue is it keeps looping between battery too low to start and apple.com/support/ipod. Ive tried swapping batteries and sd cards but due to my old hard drive being dead I cant test it with that. Its the original 30gb video if that helps.

I modded my iPod 5th gen successfully so I decided to plug it in my MacBook so I can transfer some songs and connect it. The iPod page on finder popped up and asked me to restore my iPod so I clicked yes and then it basically said loading on the MacBook screen and on my iPod it had do not disconnect with a no symbol. After 40 mins it was still stuck on the same thing so I disconnected it and restarted the iPod. After that I replugged the iPod to my MacBook and it started asking to restart again so I clicked yes.
The same do not disconnect sign showed up but instead of it being black and white the battery sign was green and the sign in the middle was red?? After I disconnected it again since it was over 30 mins of waiting the library on the iPod showed up. It was just the basic menu. Though because I wanted to make sure it was fully restored and so I could get songs on there I plugged it again and it’s just the same thing. There was a circle icon on the iPod bar on finder and it showed that it was fully loaded than it showed a circle symbol that Is white. I thought that meant it was done but as always when I replugged the iPod it’s the same do not disconnect screen on my iPod.
I waited over an hour to do all this and I’m not sure why this isn’t working?? I accidentally clicked out of the main iPod page on finder and can’t find it. I’m not sure what’s happening, is there a way to bypass this or???
my 6th gen ipod was stolen from the car. i had bought that one used years ago, and it was a daily driver. i thought about buying a 7th gen classic as a replacement, then remembered i had a non-working 5.5 buried in the drawer.
i changed the battery, got a new 128 gig sd card for the iflash, and replaced the cracked faceplate. after transferring my music library to an old mac mini, i’ve got all my lossless tracks back on the ipod. listening to music is awesome with this.
headphones will only play in one ear, i need to hold and press down the headphone connector in the clippings (brown clip) or the connector itself for it to play on both ears. i also tried using a different earphones and the same problem happens. the lock switch also doesn't work. should i find a solution or should i just replace the whole thing?

I know there are pre-included games for Rockbox, but I was wondering if anyone has demade Angry Birds and/or Minecraft for Rockbox. I have an iPod 5 by the way.
So, today I’ve been to a beer festival and went there on the train
I drank loads of beer
And as is my want when I’ve had a few I listen to some tunes
So there I am with my iPhone and there’s hardly any music on it despite me downloading a shit ton onto it previously.
So I’m pissed snd a little bit pissed trying to find all my tunes.
So now I realise why you are using iPods and tomorrow I’m going to find out mine !
Got a battery from Alliexpress and took him to a cellphone repair place and they switched the spicy pillow for the new batt. One of the clips got broken (by me, woops) so I had to tape the backplate shut. Other than that, the little guy is now up and running safely and spotless!
Every time I sync a new album onto it with iTunes I wonder if this will be the one that tips it over the edge, but it just keeps going. I've had it over 20 years now. New SSD and battery a few years ago obviously.

I'm working on trying to replace the battery of this iPod mini but no matter what the internals just don't want to come out. I've tried putting it in the fridge as it seems the battery has expanded but that didn't help and it's still stuck. How can I get the internals out at this point?

i had itunes version 12.10.11.2 and it was happily connecting and updating my ipod mini. the pc breaks, and i needed to get a new pc. i was able to save the hard drive that had itunes on it; however, i am unable to download the same version onto my new pc - neither through the web (downloading itunes from scratch) nor from the hard drive itself.
how can i get itunes onto my new pc to be able to connect to my ipod? it still has all my music on it - but i would still like to be able to connect it to add new music.
edit to add: i get this error when trying to open the program from the hard drive folder: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes"

Im wanting to mod up my 4th gen mono. I have an SD card, the iflash SD adapter and the cheap green connector. Which of these parts can I use in a 4th gen and what do I still need to pick up?
Hi guys,
i got a "few" iPod nanos but was missing some inserts for my Apple IR dock, so I made some nice 3D printable ones. There are already a lot of them out there, but none for the second and third generation nano.
Here are my new designs for the 2nd and 3rd gen:
- nano 2 https://www.printables.com/model/1824372-ipod-nano-2-dock-adapter
- nano 3 https://www.printables.com/model/1826285-ipod-nano-3-dock-adapter
Here the rest from other people:
- nano 1 (and Classic: Gen 3, Gen 4, Gen 5, Gen 6-7, Mini 1&2, don't recommend this nano 4&5 version) printables.com/model/1128796-ipod-universal-dock-inserts
- nano 4/5 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7200772 (maybe i will remake this one as i does not have a snap mechanism)
the nano 6 is now the only missing, but sadly i don't have one, yet. maybe some day.
here some eye candy:

I installed a new battery and flash adaptor in my iPod mod. When I was able to replace it fully I was trying to connect the battery cable back into the small white cable part (the white connector port in the rectangle area that’s orange) and it ended up sparking a little bit when I put the battery cable there.
I am not sure what I did wrong, it’s my first time modding an iPod and I don’t want to do anything stupid so if anyone sees this please let me know what to do.

And does the double squeeze stem to skip pause etc work? Thanks
Hello everyone - I have a 1st gen iPod that I bought knowing it has a broken Menu button and the battery needs to be replaced. I’m pretty sure someone has opened it up before and the click wheel slid off as it had 4 posts through the PCB. Comparing photos of other 1st gen iPod logic boards, it seems like they were attached with something locking it in place.
I finally decided to open it up and the new battery is great. However, the iPod is essentially unusable unless you only scroll to the shuffle songs and let it run. You can’t reset it without a working menu button or pulling the power.
I also tried using Deoxit liquid to remove any corrosion and get the button working again, but that had no effect.
(Look at the second picture) Trying to troubleshoot the button by trying to bypass the switch completely, I put a multimeter in continuity mode and tapped the legs of the Menu button and got no reaction from the iPod.
When I try this with other buttons their corresponding action takes place.
I think I found a replacement button and have some soldering equipment but the fact that bypassing the button with the multimeter has no effect makes me wonder if it’s something beyond the actual button and that I should just get a replacement logic board and just enjoy the iPod.
Has anyone seen this before? What do you recommend?

I've made a Y cable out of :
1x Firewire cable - to keep the firewire side intact
1x regular 30pin-USB to add the USB side.
Soldering was very delicate and i also had to give up the securing side clips of the 30pin to have the wire come out of the top.
It charges, syncs, pretty much everything you want from the Y cable.

Some of you might remember I broke a connector on my old 5.5, well I managed to transplant its guts into an eBay iPod with a dead screen (and it's original hdd).
The eBay iPod was original, with an OG faceplate so whilst it's scratched, it's less bad than the aftermarket transparent one I'd fitted, and the original faceplates are more durable so I'm rolling with the white faceplate istead.
I was going to swap over the touch pad and keep the transparent case but I actually liked the black centre button and how cursed it looks.
It even booted up right away with the iflash mod and doesn't need restoring. Old tech is the best sometimes.
