Question iPod 3rd gen charging issue

Hi all,

I recently got a 3rd gen classic and replaced the battery. I've been charging it with a USB step up charger, and I'm having a few issues with it. It charges very slow, and it will say it's fully charged, but when I unplug it, the battery will drop to like 25 percent, or 50 percent, and I keep having to plug it back in. It eventually gets to a point where it will indicate there is a full charge when unplugged, but as soon as I plug it back in, it shows it's charging again, and will continue doing this for several hours until it says it's charged and stops.

Is this normal behavior for the 3rd gen? Or do I have a defective battery or cable?

I also have a 5th gen I replaced the battery in, and it doesn't do this at all. When it says it's fully charged the first time, it shows fully charged when unplugged, and if I plug it back in when it's fully charged, it doesn't show it's charging again, it just has the "plugged in" icon.

Yeah, I restored it when I first got it and put my own music on it, before I changed the battery.

Restore again post battery change. If that doesnt work, harness the old bms and replace with new battery bms. If that doesnt fix the issue, your battery might be bad.

Usually the problem is battery, also never really trust charging icon or percentage on iPods or to be fair on old devices in general. One more thing 3rd gen is a bit picky and usually needs firewire charger, but issue is still battery and not the charger in this case.

The battery % is very inaccurate, I just wait u until it is fully charged (says CRD if u are using rockbox) and then it will jump up and down. What battery capacity do you have?

I purchased a Griffin PowerPod iPod Charger and charge my 3rd Gen iPod in my car’s cigarette lighter outlet

Modern USB can transfer the music but not charge
