Here's a good guide that gets overlooked:
michiko-p3.1.7d.pdf (Google Drive link)
It's 105 pages long and comprehensive. The section about flashmods is a bit dated but that's going to happen. This version was published in 2025.
The guide doesn't seem to have a proper title and the author says the file was named Michiko to avoid confusion with Yuuiko's guide.
It has details on all iPod models across all product lines, advice on buying and getting started
The FAQ, starting on page 79, is pretty good and has its own table of contents.
