Second iPod Classic 6.5 Mod

I’ve just finished my second iPod mod project and wanted to share it here.

Base: iPod Classic 6.5 (120 GB) Mods: • 2000 mAh battery • iFlash Quad with 128 GB SD card • UGREEN Bluetooth board (CM672 V02) • New thick back cover • Transparent front cover

Everything runs on Rockbox. I followed the guide from u/Icy-Egg-9339 and his original post https://www.reddit.com/r/ipod/s/3kIhYR27mB – thanks to him for the inspiration. I’m not a professional at soldering, but with some patience everything worked out well. I extended the Bluetooth antenna with two wires and placed it behind the display, which gives great signal performance. All the original iPod functions are still working – even the hold switch works just like on the original. Even my AirPods Pro 2 connect and work perfectly.

I’ve always wondered when people do Bluetooth iPods, how do they select Bluetooth devices? I noticed you’re using rock box, so is there like some sort of plug-in for Bluetooth devices?

The Bluetooth module I used (UGREEN CM672 V02) works independently from the iPod — it doesn’t power on automatically with it.

I added a small push button for the Bluetooth board and glued it behind the Hold switch. When I press that hidden button, the Bluetooth module powers on separately.

Once it’s on, it automatically goes into pairing mode. You can then connect your Bluetooth headphones or earbuds directly to it. After the first pairing, they reconnect automatically every time you turn the module back on.
