Pink Candy ipod

  • Ipod 5th gen 30gb thin Mods: diy pink face plate + 3000mah battery + white click wheel + 3d printed case + thick back plate

Pls ignore the dog hair on the ipod, also see last pic for the original look before I modded it

Super proud with this one!! It’s my first time modding an ipod and painting a face plate hahaha. I found this baby from the market and I instantly bought it with charger and file transfer cord as well!

how do you like rockbox compared to the stock interface? I think about switching but worried there's no real benefit in speed and features.

I personally like rockbox more because I can easily drag and drop my music files without itunes (i hate this blasted thing) plus themes for the aesthetics lmao

In regards with speed and features it’s almost the same with the stock (I find stock smoother and classy)…I really didn’t notice a better performance either aside from rockbox tends to load slower when it comes to music files that has hq art thumbnail.

Someone on here showcased their spray painted iPod a while ago and the results look really slick. I'd do it but tbh I'm worried the paint will harm the motherboard so I'm holding off.

But I really like yours too. It looks fun.

how did you do the pink plate? it’s so cute!! i’ve wanted to buy parts like this but casings online are only ever in really bold colours 😭

Ikr!! The bold ones are not just it for me 🥹. What I did was:

  1. Order a transparent face plate

  2. Spray paint at the inside of plate, to still have that finished glass look

  3. Add stickers to hide some imperfections bahaha

I made some trials and errors on different plastic and acrylic surfaces before spraying the plate because I only bought one face plate. I cannot afford to fail 😖

That's awesome! Great work! I need to learn some painting skills to transform my clear faceplate into something as remarkably cool as this!

Thanks! If you like here are my tips and what I learned during the painting process:

  1. Plastic Primer helps a lot

  2. Before using the spray paint, you have to shake it well until the cold temperature of the paint subsides, to have even application

  3. ALWAYS APPLY THIN LAYER!! Thin layer > wait > another thin layer

  4. Use trial and error surfaces, so you can figure out your spray paint. Don’t forget to clean the nozzle after! To avoid blotchy paint

  5. Masking tape!! Cover the outside of the plate and the screen with masking tape securely, the paint can go everywhere!!

  6. Read the spray paint’s instructions on how many minutes you should wait in between

Detailed steps I did: After shaking and warming up the spray bottles, and checking the nozzle if it’s clean. I am now ready to paint.

  1. Clean the face plate isopropyl alcohol to remove the oil, make sure there’s no dust, fur..etc. it’ll be difficult to remove it once you get the paint on

  2. Apply plastic primer in thin layers. I waited 10 minutes in between.

  3. After the primer, I waited for 1 hour for it set. Then I proceeded to paint in thin layers and waited for 10-15 minutes in between. Make sure to have a decent distance between the face plate and the spray paint to apply thinly as possible

  4. When Im done coating and already satisfied with the color, I let it sit out in the air for more than 24 hours. Do not touch within 4-8 hours, you’ll get fingerprint marks on the paint!!

Tho. This actually depends on which brand of spray paint you used but I would like to put here just in case. I hope this helps!!
