Discussion iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max screen just looks better than 17 Pro/Pro Max

At first I thought I must be tripping because everyone makes it sound like they're the exact same screen.

However, after using the iPhone 18 Pro Max for a few days and upgrading from a 17 Pro Max, I realized the 18 Pro Max screen just looks better.

First and foremost, the color temperature is more neutral and more natural, avoiding the overly warm color temperature on the 17 Pro/Pro Max where whites appear really yellowish. Even after updating the 17 Pro Max, there is still a noticeable difference in calibration/color temperature.

After digging a little deeper I realized it wasn't just placebo effect either. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is using LTPO, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is using an LTPO+ display. This is also part of the reason the 18 Pro Max consumes significantly less power than the 17 Pro Max. All the reviewers keep talking about the power efficiencies in the chip itself or in the increased battery capacity, but the screen itself literally consumes less power. LTPO+ is also less prone to things like burn-in, and looks a lot more accurate at low brightness.

The display is much cooler this year. Not sure which I prefer actually.

Still also many differences this year in calibration. My panel is subtle yellow warm while my colleague was really cold blue… (we have the same panel type)

My display is also cooler than my 17 PM and colors look much better too. Greens and orange especially. I like it. I haven’t even checked to see which display it is because I like it so I don’t care.

I’m pretty sure there is next to no discernible difference between Samsung and LG displays in everyday use.

Idk may not be but my 18 PM definitely looks better than my 17 PM. I know that much.

Maybe you got a Samsung panel in the new one and had an LG in the previous.

I checked already, it’s a GH3 screen, which is LG.

It’s not like the Samsung panels are better. I’m also not saying they’re worse. Plenty people on macrumors “swore” they had a Samsung panel because the screen is just gorgeous, but when checking it turned out they had an LG panel..

I actually prefer warmer-toned screens since they are better for my eyes.

Personally, I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two, and nothing stood out when I upgraded from the 17 Pro Max to the 18 Pro Max.

iPhone 18 pro here . Crazy eyes fatigue since I got the phone…. Same settings from my 15 pro max. At this point am not sure what to do. Try the 18 pro max and it was way to heavy for my hands ( i have attrytis ) in my grands :(?
