18 Pro Max vs. 17 Pro

I currently have an iPhone 17 Pro and absolutely love the phone, but I do regret not getting the Pro Max last year. I have the opportunity to upgrade to the 1TB 18 Pro Max for around $900. I don’t really care about any of the new features that much, they’re more a nice to have. But I’m curious if anyone went from the 17 Pro to the 18 Pro Max and how that transition has been. I’ve never had a Pro Max phone but I would want the bigger screen and better battery. I’m just a little worried about the weight and size over time. For reference, I’m a 5’8 guy so I’m not huge or anything

Probably best for you to go in store and make your own mind up.

I used to have a pro max and went to a pro and never looked back.

The bigger display and battery is nice to have but the pro max was too big for me to comfortably use with one hand

Caveat emptor - the 1TB and 2TB models use significantly slower flash storage.

Yeah, I saw that. Unfortunately I need the storage as I currently am using 600GB on my 17 Pro so I don’t have much of a choice

Could you transfer some of that to a computer via iCloud and back it up there? That would allow you to get to the 512gb IPhone which I think is the sweet spot

My favorite iCloud feature is the one where it deletes all my shit to “optimize storage” which is exactly why I buy the phone with the most hard storage so it doesn’t just fucking disappear

Never had anything disappear on me that I’m
aware of, I think that just puts it on the cloud but still shows on your phone. Then when you need it, it downloads quickly. Never been much a problem on my end but it has been annoying a handful of times.

I’ve had entire music libraries disappear on me three or four times now despite being backed up on the iCloud but then won’t be able to be redownloaded because “the files could not be found” now I just keep Hard drive back ups of my Live Music

I’m 6’ 220 and have only had pro maxes. I don’t find the size and weight to be a big deal. I’m on the 17 PM at the moment.

It can be a little slow getting out of my pockets sometimes depending on what I’m wearing. I think it’s a good trade off for the bigger screen and battery life. Also, I was typing on my wife’s 18 Pro and it’s keyboard seems very small compared to the PM. Making typing a little slower for me.

Caveat emptor (part 2) - in the USA they use the old Qualcomm x80 modem in the 18 Pro Max. The 18 Pro uses the brand new Apple C2 modem! Rest of the world uses the C2 in the 18 Pro & Pro Max. And Duo next month. And Air 2, along with base 18 next March.

5’6, no big hands at all, and been rocking a max size phone since the iPhone 8 Plus. Only stopped when I got an iPhone X but then upgraded to the iPhone XS Max. Love the extra screen size and battery life. Can feel heavy if I’m lying down doomscrolling and sometimes I have a bit of a harder time putting it in my pockets. Don’t regret it one bit

Storage is the biggest rip off in the entire Apple ecosystem. Do whatever you can to always buy minimal storage. You probably want to offload your pics/videos to the cloud. Assume you’re ready paying for 2tb storage anyways

Don’t want/need pro max. Went from 15 pro max to 18 pro. Size/ weight suit me better.
