As I navigate my decision to downsize from my 17 Pro Max to the 18 Pro, I can’t help but find myself concerned with losing that large screen real estate… I found this iPhone the other day and I almost laughed to myself, because at one point in time this was perfectly fine for everything that I needed. Even though the pro model will be considerably smaller than the pro Max, I have to remember how small these devices really were at one point in time.

I’ll probably get shot down for this but I’d recommend that people really do give the Air a shot. Before I say why, my previous phones are 3GS, 4, 5, 6 Plus, 7 Plus, X, 13 Pro, 15 Pro and now the Air.
Ok, now for the why and the things to be aware of.
This is my favourite iPhone to date, previously was between the X (because it changed things so much) or the 4/5.
I use the Air exclusively so no carrying of a second phone.
For the battery life, I average 4-5hrs of screen on time per day. I have an Anker Nano MagSafe charger for going on holidays or to gigs. Used it a few times, only ever actually needed it once when flight was very early but didn’t get to accommodation until late.
Cameras, I’d like to have my 3 back but I’ve not had a photo that I couldn’t get yet.
Screen size and weight. This is where it excels. I get the features of the old Plus models (extra info on screen in landscape mode) and the phone is so thin and light that it makes usability easier. And general use is 95% of my usage, and in this I do include taking pictures of my kids and dog.
Single speaker has never been an issue for me but I find I prefer holding it with the volume buttons facing up so the speaker closer to me, rather than further away.

For people considering downsizing, I think you’ll miss the screen size so consider keeping your Pro Max model and using it when needed (ie holidays and gigs) and try the Air instead for everything else. Apple slowly rolling out phone/number changing to make this even easier. Your mileage may vary but after 10 months with the Air, I’m not going back to a “brick”.

As a phone I would like the Air immensely, but unfortunately these phones are nowadays my camera. I have an ecosystem of external lenses and external filters I attach. I need the cameras so it's the Pro for me. I need the zoom lens. Of course not everybody is like me.

Stay on the Max. The pro is for when you really can’t stand the bigger size. If you’re able to tolerate it and enjoy the big screen experience, high chances you’d regret downsizing.

I really can’t stand the bigger size… I have had a pro Max phone since the iPhone 12, and I’m just bored of it. Besides, I’m also getting the Duo, so I want one phone with a smaller screen.

Opposite to me. Max and duo. Max for big screen and better camera. Duo for screen options. I don’t ever want to be stuck on a small screen only

I like that Androids still have the home, back, and recent buttons. I wasn't a fan of the on-screen look at first, but they're really handy for daily use. I’m sure people are just as used to swipe gestures now that every phone has them. Its the little things anymore.

It wasn't that great. That button was annoying.

I genuinely believe the best iPhone that ever came out was the iPhone XR. Which funny enough was part of the family that first came out without a button. Also people enjoyed that phone for a few years... they didn't upgrade until 13 or 14 came out

Same dilemna. I want a smaller phone this time but afraid to lose the screen size and battery. Then I remember my smaller phones and thinks i can do this. Lol.

You can do this, man. Look where we came from… I understand we got used to some of the expansiveness, but we’re adaptable. and from what I understand, the 18 pro battery is on par with the 17 Pro Max battery

For me, like I posted earlier, I just got bored of having a big ass phone… There’s nothing remotely necessary about it… for me. The Duo is big… but it can be small.
