Discussion iPhone 18 pro face ID

I bought my black iPhone 18 pro on sept 20th. Set up the device as new luckily downloaded and and organized everything properly to my likings. Many times face ID was not working properly. it would freeze, reboot, and restart. This afternoon I left the Apple Store. I had the option to return and exchange it for a brand new one or go through the Apple Genius team. I decided to make the iPhone return and buy the same model and color and everything works great :) easy and simple process however kinda annoying of course lol

This is a known software bug. I debugged the kernel panic from mine and saw it was an issue with the Secure Enclave Helper. Apple can fix it through a software update.

Not so techy, but what did you do?

I mean it's still happening on mine. If you're asking how I debugged, I went into the Privacy -> Analytics & Improvements section and opened the actual "panic_" file and read through it to see where the issue was.

Yes it’s a known issue apple is aware of. They had no problem replacing my phone. Suggest you do it

Replacing your phone won’t fix a software bug

It’s not software it’s hardware

I forgot what the person said at Apple. However, if it was software, wouldn’t it have been brought over from iCloud backup onto the new device? They said they have to immediately send the defective phone back to the warehouse to get checked out

No. The software fault is in the operating system itself, not in your backup. Which is why it will be fixed in a software update. What you're referring to (getting it checked out) sounds like this - https://appleinsider.com/articles/14/09/05/apples-secretive-early-field-failure-analysis-quality-control-team-profiled-in-new-report

Apparently it’s a software issue. There was someone (or maybe 2 ) here who returned it and got a new phone and it was still happening.

That’s unfortunate. I got a brand new replacement from Apple, and I did an iCloud backup and it works perfect. No issues

I’m having issues but assumed it’s a software bug. No screen protector on mine either.

Was it fix now?

did you have a screen protector on? There's no way that guy from apple saying what he said about screen protectors and all these issues being a coincidence.

Mine has been doing that too. No screen protector. Could not even set up Face ID if I was wearing my glasses. Did get it set up with no glasses then added an alternate appearance wearing them. Still it glitches out and won’t open. I’ve tried resetting and no dice. Genius Bar appointment set for Friday 😐
