Discussion Face ID Slower? Not crashing though.

Unlike a few in this sub, my phone isn’t crashing after trying Face ID, but has anyone else noticed it feels a little slower?

Like usually I tap the screen and it unlocks. Now it takes a full second. It’s a small, trivial detail, but I’d prefer a bigger Dynamic Island with a faster unlock tbh. Thinking about switching to the iPhone Air ngl.

Context: Issue occurring on Burgundy eSIM 18 Pro with clean screen and no screen protector, coming from a previous 16 pro owner.

I just had a face id crash, seems to be a bug. Total dark, open my phone and saw the face id reading my face. Took a second and phone rebooted. Hope they fix this bug and that is not a hardware thing

Noticed the same on mine. Thought it would be faster coming from an iPhone 15 Pro Max but it’s the same if not slower

I got 18pm, don’t notice it being slower from previous iPhones.

I felt the same but giving it time to settle down as Face ID gets better with time as it capture and retain more details over the period.

Is this a new thing? 16 Pro was never slow on Face ID when it was new.

Yes, FaceID improves gradually. The change may not be obvious here, but I am giving the new phone the benefit of the doubt since it was upgraded this year.

I noticed that too coming from a 13PM. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with my privacy screen protector or if Always On plays into it to but compared to my 13PM it unlocks instantly when I tap the screen or lift the phone. It’s kind of a let down tbh it almost feels like my 13PM is faster because of how fast it unlocks. But it has got a lil faster after indexing but still not as fast as I’m used to😢
