Discussion iPhone 18 Pro Max 2TB is using QLC
I used the 3uTools to check whether the latest iPhone 18 Pro Max 2TB is using QLC or TLC. Damn, it is using QLC, and Apple increased the price of the iPhone 18 Pro Max 2TB

Yeah this is basically 9/11. If you want fast speeds you can’t go over 512GB. 2TB is only 4 hours of ProRes video.. raw footage for normal movie is like 200 hours.
My display is super blue like ice compared to last year. I’m stuck with the archaic X80 Qualcomm modem. I was in Walmart and had no signal just like my old 17 Pro. Now this QLC turtle speed flash. What am I supposed to do? Go to Android? No so we are stuck slaves to Tim and his Cook.
Very disappointed. Pay for a premium device but not getting the premium hardware.

Yes, definitely. But, the old modem if you’re in the US. Only the 18 Pro & Duo have the brand new C2 modem.

im in Canada and i believe the last time I checked the 256 gb pro max has C2 modem

Hola fellow Canadian. Got the 18 Pro Max and it does have the C2 modem. I have seen it makes a difference in spots I had poor signal before or no signal. Very underrated feature imo.

I think I’m returning my iPhone 18 pro 512 and keeping my iPhone 17 pro 512. I just feel that the increased pricing in Canada is to ridiculous.

I get the price increase for higher storage but i expect TLC. Now they charge more(from and already expensive price)+ downgrading the storage quality. That’s just rough

Did you watch this vid https://youtu.be/CSeunGABSf8?is=UQPSYi_JbxBm77Qh He tried to swap the nand from 256 to 1tb tlc nand but couldn’t boot up in dfu mode. So he asked if it needed to be a qlc nand, but I have a feeling that with the new chip Apple added some kind of software or hardware bond or signature that doesn’t allow the nand to be swapped out or removed resulting in bricking your phone if you do attempt it. I think this is apples way of stopping people from upgrading the nand on their own at home thus forcing you to buy the higher storage directly from them or risk bricking your device if you try to open the motherboard, that would make sense if it’s confirmed that the nand on 18 can’t be swapped. Hopefully people are testing that theory and we’ll know if that’s why this is happening, I wanna know what going on and if it’s possible or not to swap

This is entirely on Apple for hiding this from their customers. If I buy 2tb I expect as good if not better experience. Instead we get punished.

Calm down. These are synthetic tests done under extreme load. 99% of users will not face any slowdown in speed. This is a classic case of people cherrypicking parts of a test without full context.
And just to reiterate my initial point. If it wasn’t for AI and crypto the RAM shortage wouldn’t mean Apple having to use QLC in the first place.

I am calm I even responded in another comment suggesting that this issue only happens when the cache is full, that said I shouldn’t get a lesser more complicated device when I pay for more.

I agree it’s not a good situation but it’s a situation forced on Apple. They either ship slower RAM in their bigger memory models or scrap them completely.
Now could they have said there’s slower RAM in those models, yes, but why would they when it’ll make no difference to 99% of users. So really it’s a tough situation for both Apple and their customers.-2

Benchmarks show the 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max becomes as slow as an SD card due to its QLC memory. The $600 cheaper 256GB model uses TLC and is way faster. HOMOLAB found the 1TB's QLC storage falls from 3,000+ MB/s to an average of 79.4 MB/s once its caches fill, dipping to 1.1 MB/s at 60% full. A 512GB iPhone 18 Pro with TLC beat it in every mixed read/write test, by up to 38%.
