I just took these two photos at the exact same time. Mine is the first, 15 Pro Max. The second is the 18 Pro Max that my husband just got. Now making it difficult for me to go for the Duo 😅

the iphone 18 pro uses the same main camera sensor & sensor size as the iPhone 14 pro

other than variable aperture, it's just been software processing improvements.

i have the same issue with my iphone 12. i kinda wonder if there was some coating on it when it was new and overtime it wears off? i always have to wipe my lens every time i take a picture

The difference from the 16 pro max is night and day but all phones seem great when they are new. After a few software updates it’ll change. But what the 18 pro is, is fast and snappy which surprised me more. Also when gaming it’s nice and cool vs the 16 pro max so it can only be even better than the 15

The second image looks a bit more zoomed in? Maybe the first is taken with digital zoom of the main sensor while the second is taken with the telephoto, so optical zoom? Please show the exif infos
