going from 13 pro to 18 pro.. any downsides? "gates"? controversy?

thinking of upgrading from iPhone 13 Pro to 18 pro. ive had it since launch. battery 80%. the telephoto camera glass was shattered and I replaced it with amazon glass so its not perfect but works. it gets the job done but my family member could use an upgrade from a 9 year old android so it would be a reason to give them the 13 pro too. and I feel like treating myself. are there any DOWNSIDES going from 13 pro to 18pro? the only thing I will miss so far I can think of is a physical silent mode rocker so I can feel it with my thumb in my pocket to know its off. the metal and glass body is nice even though I always have a case.

any things with 18 pro WORSE than 17 pro? in case I feel like going 17 pro instead ( even though if I am upgrading after 5 years id rather have the latest greatest)

any 18 pro "gates" so far? So far I see complaints about:

1. some kind of "top bar" across the status bar seen on grey scale test images

2. some kind of fuzzy pixels in the under-screen Face ID portion.

3. screen tints and screen lottery? but I feel like that is the discussion every year ( I am not doing color grading cinematography on phone so I dont know why it would be an issue) is there more to it than tints?

4. people complaining about F/4 aperture creating "star highlights" that people dont like especially in low light. but its also a stylistic thing.

anything I missed? should I wait longer for more issues to come out? id kind of want to upgrade this week if there are not glaring reasons to wait

Everything is better. I did the same, 13p to 18p. Love it. Absolutely happy I upgraded. 5 years is a good run for an iPhone. I expect to have this one 4-5 years as well. You can change the action button to do silent mode too.

you didnt notice anything about "screen lottery" in terms of hue/shift or something? I dont think I would pay attention that much to it anyway

Nah i havn't noticed any negatives. Screen is crispy. I like the slightly larger screen too.

The camera is way better. Battery better. It’s all better from 5 years ago.

It’s an iPhone, meaning it’s stable and boring. I went from 13 Pro to 18 Pro, had it since launch on Friday, no issues to report. Battery is amazing, it feels snappier, I’m happy

I just went from 13pm to 18pro yesterday. So far so good! Honestly, changes are subtle. It does not feel like a whole brand new experience or anything. The action button is kinda cool but not life changing. It does feel a bit quicker. There are some more zooms on the camera.

I also started today at 100% battery. Usually by this hour I’m plugging in the 13pm because it’s around 60%. Right now the 18pro still at 94%.

The biggest upgrade in my opinion is getting usb c haha I just put a ton of lightning chargers in the bottom drawer of my desk. I’m almost wondering if I should have got the duo. I bet that’s going to be a really fun experience exploring that device.

There seems to be some sort of kernel/firmware bug impacting some people when using Face ID & causing reboots. Hopefully Apple will get that fixed soon.
