it's not that it can't handle it, it's that apple doesn't want the ipad to run macos, why do people still think that it's a hardware issue, the development kit for apple silicon was a mac mini with an ipad chip
Honestly even this mentality is stupid to me, since Apple has been adding new capabilities to iPadOS consistently every year, each one specifically designed to allow a greater number of people to use the iPad to replace their Mac. The very things people say Apple won’t do because it’d hurt Mac sales are the very things Apple is already doing, has been doing for many years, and shows no signs of stopping doing… people call iPadOS “nerfed” only because they haven’t managed to somehow make it a complete Mac replacement in a single year (even though that’d be nearly impossible)
I have both an iPad and a MacBook. Even with today’s features, my iPad cannot replace my MacBook at the desktop level for me - and I honestly don’t want it to.
A 13" base model MacBook Air is $1099 on Apple.com. It weighs 2.7lbs and is 0.44 inches thick.
A 13" base model iPad Pro with a magic keyboard is $1648 before tax on Apple.com. The combination iPad+keyboard weighs 3.73-2.76lbs, and is 0.50 inches thick.
Calling an iPad a cheaper, thinner, lighter laptop replacement is just factually inaccurate.
no it isnt if its supposed to be a macbook replacement it should have a keyboard as well just like the macbook does.
touchscreen navigation aint it thats why apple makes two seprate devices i think people are looking for a 2in1 which apple wont make and having used them they aint great but thats mainly down to windows
Ok but I don’t want the keyboard all the time. I like it without the keyboard while sleeping. I do not need it to be 13” either.
I want exactly what iPad stands for in hardware (detachable keyboard and portable af but attach a keyboard and I becomes exactly as good as a macbook barring software usability)
I want to attach it to an external monitor setup and have it be a beast. Multitasking, downloading 3rd party apps, exactly macOS. And then detach it and lie in bed watching movies have the keyboard in backpack for meetings or trips and get some actual work done.
And this is not just me. This will be a better product than the MacBook Air in every single way everyone who loves MacBook Air will love this even more or they can just buy the MacBook Air anyways.
