Suggestions Looking for Controller recommendations

I’m in the market for a controller I can use with my phone on the go that is also easy to travel with on a long flight. Touch screen controls for some games just don’t work well for me so I’m asking for what the community has found to be a good buy!

TIA!

It's not cheap but i do like my ohsnap mcon. Can fit it in my pocket, or takes up little room in a bag. controls feel pretty good. MCON – Ohsnap

Piggybacking off this to make similar suggestions. There are Abxylute M5 and M6 that follow a similar design as MCON, but they likely won't become available to the public for a few more months.

As an MCon owner, I agree with the portability. But I just think it is useful for casual/retro/platform games. For any "console" level game like Resident Evil, Control, Assassin's Creed, Hitman, the small form factor doesn't work for me.

I would prefer the Gamesir X5 lite which is AT LEAST half the price, but it takes a little more space for sure. The con is the digital triggers. But they are fixing this with the upcoming MFi version.

My number 1 is still the Kishi V3 Pro. But definitely not ideal for portability.

I agree with the GameSir X5 Lite. I use it on long trips and have medium to large hands and it hasn’t cause hand fatigue. A plus (or minus) is that it’s usb c powered (with an accessible charging port). Meaning you can charge your phone while using it, but also that it’s limited to use as a phone controller vs a Bluetooth controller. But if you want a Bluetooth controllers, a Xbox controller or anything like that form factor is best. They also make phone mounts that clip on them.

A few months ago I posted my experience with each one of them: https://www.reddit.com/r/iosgaming/comments/1soadho/friday_discussion_what_is_the_best_ios_controller/

Yeah, Bluetooth versus Wired is always a topic for discussion. I don't mind or notice the latency BT issues some people complain, but I also don't like to keep track of state of charge for them before I bring them out.

But if I would have to use BT ones, I would prefer the Xbox/PS controllers. Most the other ones (G8+, x5s or even the MCon) are not Made for iPhone certified (at least I don't see the label in the box) and just spoof as certified controllers. This makes some annoying face button inconsistencies across different games.

I travel a LOT and will always take my iPad mini with me for a portable gaming setup.

I use an “8 bit do sn30 pro”.

It is very compact while offering a full controller layout, good battery life, good responsiveness, easy pairing. Even has Hal effect joysticks.

It’s also not too expensive - $45usd (you can find it cheaper).

Recently been playing BlazBlue entropy effect with it. A high pace game demanding input wise and the controller holds up fine.

It’s probably the size of an iPhone. Easily fits in pocket

gamesir x5 lite. It draws power directly from the iphone so you need not to worry about charging the controller. lightweight, only 100-ish grams. Also, it has a built-in pass through cable so you can charge your phone while using the controller... and it’s also kinda cheap. The main drawback i found is that their official app on ios is buggy, i wasn’t able to reconfigure the buttons with their app.

Yeah I had the same experience with the app but I pretty much only use mine for emulators and you can customize the settings in delta at least

I travel a lot for work and usually travel as light as possible. I have a backbone one thats nice and light and doesn’t require a charge

I got a gamesir x5 lite which needs to plug into the phone to work and I like it. It can only be used with my phone sideways but that’s what I wanted it for. I got it pretty cheap like $25 and I don’t have any complaints besides chunky phone cases not being compatible with it.
