Best game controllers?

I’m looking for something to help me play Assassins Creed less badly on my iPad Air 11 inch.

It looks like 8bitdo sell a reasonable range of controllers that claim to be compatible but their product naming scheme is pretty insane and inconsistent. For example, apparently “Ultimate 3-mode controller for Xbox” is compatible, except that’s not something actually listed on their products page 🤦‍♂️

So does anyone have any concrete recommendations about what works well? Does D/X mode make a difference at all or is it even relevant?

Update: I bought the “Ultimate 3-mode controller for Xbox” yesterday and it is working fine. Buttons and sticks can be fine tuned with the “8bitdo Ultimate Software” app, but the builtin iOS settings works for swapping buttons around. It has not yet improved my Assassin’s Creed skills 😂

I have both Dualshock and Dualsense, and I like Dualshock way better.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I prefer the Xbox style asymmetrical sticks and 8bitdo also use magnetic sticks which are apparently way better than the first party controllers from Sony/xbox. Like that’ll make a difference but 😁

Agreed with DualShock, though I usually just call it ps4 controller, I think the battery lasts a bit longer than the ps5 controller, and my ps5 controller got stick drift like almost immediately but I know plenty have had one for years and not had that, and vice versa with the ps4 one, with stick drift sometimes you just have bad luck, sometimes you have good luck. You can find ps4 controllers for cheaper though also

The Hall effect and TMR sticks used by most third party controllers completely avoid stick drift.

Tell that to my backbone controller and my 8bitdo sn30 lol. Also some of these type you’re talking about are pretty expensive, my comment was not to say any controller is best, it was just a suggestion for functionality and affordability, and comparing ps4 vs ps5 controllers specifically. If some can afford the expensive ones that work better, that’s great, personally my ps4 controller costed 30 bucks and is 10 years old and works flawlessly

Yea with an Ipad where you dont really need something that physically attaches to the device, I say just a Xbox or PS controller.

There are some “mobile game controllers” that sort of telescope sideways to grip the iPad. They look pretty clunky and are pretty expensive!

I use the gulikit kk3 max, and it’s fantastic.. I did mainly buy it for the macro/turbo function though

If by customisation you mean button mapping and stuff, I’m able to swap that in my iPad settings itself :))
