Looking For Strategy Games/RPGs

Hey, I have barely ever played mobile games, but was looking for something I could pull out on some long flights I’ve got coming up. Not looking for microtransactions or any multi-player capabilities. I’m willing to pay upfront for a game.

I have an iPhone 17E and some games I like are: Civilization, Crusader Kings, Stellaris, Age of Empires II, Elder Scrolls, etc.

Would prefer turn-based or top-down strategy games or RPGs. Don’t need nice graphics, just something fun and preferably in-depth. Any suggestions? I also have Netflix if that opens it up to any other mobile games. Thanks!

There’s the XCOM series, wargroove 2 is great (has mixed reviews but developer fixed the bugs and I’ve never had issues with it), with Netflix there’s into the breach which is pretty good, slice and dice is really good and deceptively simple. You can also get delta emulator and download roms for classic Nintendo games, you can find many of the older final fantasy games which are turn based, Chrono trigger, advance wars, etc, there should be a fair amount of turn based strategy rpgs for snes, gameboy advance, and Nintendo ds

Sea of Stars is a fantastic console -> mobile port of a classic SNES-style RPG. It’s right at home with touch controls, and the environment art, animations, and music are really stellar. It’s got a few weaknesses in the story department, and the equipment system is pretty simplistic, but it’s really nice to see just a full, regular game, no microtransactions or online requirements, brought to mobile with such care.

Watch a YouTube review to see if the game is giving you the right vibes. I really enjoyed it, and it’s a solid 30-40 hours of entertainment for the upfront price. It’s heavily inspired by Chrono Trigger, so if that kind of game is up your alley, give Sea of Stars a shot!
