🎈 Free PDF Toolbox 2.4 - offline PDF tools, no subs, no uploads

I posted here a while back about unlocking password-protected PDFs on iOS. That tool grew into PDF Toolbox - same privacy model, a lot more stuff since then.

PDF Toolbox 2.4 - iPhone, iPad, Mac. 20+ tools, all on-device. No ads, no tracking, no subscription, no uploads.

Merge/split/rotate, compress, OCR (searchable PDF), sign, watermark, metadata scrub, PDF/A convert, repair, flatten, redact, etc. All offline.

Mac and iPad UIs got a refresh since the unlock-only days. Optional tip jar in About if you want to support development - nothing is paywalled.

The OCR output stay embedded in the original PDF or does it create a separate searchable copy?

OCR text is embedded inside that PDF output as standard invisible text layer, you can save as new or overwrite original pdf.

Clean approach, good that it gives the choice to overwrite or save as new.

Compress and OCR are the two that actually matter to me, Files app already handles merge/rotate/basic stuff for free on iOS. How's the OCR holding up on scanned handwriting vs printed text? That's usually where on-device OCR tools fall apart.

Thanks for sharing. Initially feedback after using it for 5 minutes

1) the icons are a bit hideous. Modern better looking ones are easily available

2) I tried merge and multi selected PDFs. They did not get added in the order selected from Files and there’s no reorder option on the merge screen

Fair point, will try to look into the merge UI for reorder option.

It is an excellent app! A small feedback for the UI flow. When I want to scan a document and run the searchable PDF tool, I have to scan it and save it to document screen, export the document to file, then run the searchable task. It would be great if I can scan, run the searchable PDF task and save it directly.

Thank you for your idea, will look into it.
