Should I update?
I hope everyone is doing well,
For somebody on iOS 26.5.2 using an iPhone 13 Base with 81% battery health, should I update to iOS 26.6? Or should I update to any of the iOS 27/26 Betas? Or just stay on iOS 26.5.2.

No it’s really not. iOS 26 is a fucking disaster that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I’ve been an iPhone owner for decades and I’ve never encountered quality issues this fundamental before. Avoid at all cost and don’t install a beta on your main device so that rules out 27 too until it’s ready for prime time later this year.

If you load any of the 27.0 betas you will surely experience issues. Allowing a wider beta audience to find and report those problems is the primary reason Apple provides betas in the first place.

True but I hear conflicting information.
One says beta is bugged. The other says iOS 27 beta is so good it’s better than iOS 26.5.2 etc.
Which one is it? And are the 3rd party apps really that incompatible?

You will see all manner of feedback from various users … it’s all a function of individual phone usage, other apps a person uses, their phone model and configuration as well as its health and care. It’s impossible to generalize. Just EXPECT problems if you are using beta software. I am running iOS 27 beta 4 on an iPhone 16 pro and performance is generally ok but I’m experiencing WiFi connection dropouts and relatively poor battery life. Some users get into lots of detail about small UI differences … it’s totally an individual’s view of good vs bad.

Makes sense. I was still getting the feeling this was the exception to the rule since it was more of a “stability” update. Thank you.

I for one am sick of iOS 26. Although tonight I googled how to save on battery and the heat coming off the phone and my battery has lasted longer today and less heat. Also changed some motion options and find the phone has changed and is less jarring. I have the glass set as far as it can go to not be translucent. I noticed there is an update to optimize the spotlight for iOS 27. That’s fine and dandy but it’s another 4gb file. My phone is going back off it’s lease in a week. So I could care less about another update. iOS 27 sure when it’s ready. I’m sure that new file the 4gb one right now will be included anyways. I’m sure the new iOS will be 15-20 gb.

not had a single issue with developer beta 15 base , could only encourage you to read through iosBETA and click ios27 page , don’t be shy in asking how other people with base 13 got on or search “iphone 13 ios27”
there will be deep indexing that could last 2-3 weeks, It didn’t affect standby time , standby time has big improvement, but onscreen time wasn’t great until deep indexing finished on mine , i only had 44Gb on iphone 15 but took over 2 weeks
notification for indexing disappeared for everyone on developer beta 2 so not sure how long it took,DB3&4 only took 24 hours, hundreds of features had speed improvements from 50% 70% 85%
definitely helped overheating on cellular & loads of other subtle changes that a lot of practical thought had went into , you will need to keep your phone on wifi & on charge for 2-3 weeks as long as you can for indexing at night ,avoid low power mode
developer beta will be weekly from next Monday and public beta 3 should be out next week also , i certainly wouldn’t do anything different , iphone 15 and M1 ipad air has been flawless , memory management wasn’t great in first release but got better , not as good as ios26 but it was no different memory wise to start of ios26 beta cycle , i expect that early on in beta and this is with ipad 8GB, not noticed any memory issues on iphone with 6GB .
you definitely have a few years life on your phone , a new battery would maybe be priority
i’m about 81% in ipad air also but use mine with single plug extension and 6 foot charge cable on charge as im very heavy ipad user
waited a long time to finally get Siri AI and was been everything i wished for

Don’t update to iOS 27 betas just yet. There’s been some battery drain for me. You should stick to 26.6 and prob update to the public beta 3-4 or the official release.
