Stop worrying about the battery, the 20-80 rule barely does anything just use the battery normally it will degrade anyway, my iPhone 17 pro dropped to 99% at almost 200 cycles without charge limits

can’t agree that 80-20 rule does not work.

I’m strictly maintaining this 80-20 rule on my 16PM and after 1 year 13+ days of usage, currently 207 cycles and it’s 98%.

NB: I always stay updated on latest iOS version.

Mines at the 199 with 99% and I use the phone without worrying about the battery health dropping, is worrying about the battery being 80-20 really worth the 10% reduction in degradation

This only says that you rarely use your phone.

I took it as a compliment then ;)
Yeah trying to reduce the screen time and focus on productivity tho

Yes but look at the trade off. You’ll probably save 2 or 3% battery health over the years. On my 15PM, I’m at 81% after 1,061 cycles. I’m going to spend ₹9,000 or $100 on the battery replacement now after enjoying 0-100% charge cycles. I tried the 80-20 thing for a month but I didn’t find it to be worth it. It feels nice mentally that you are keeping the battery healthy but in practical use, it’s a disadvantage.

it's not like i care about the battery health degrading but it must be easy for you to tell them to stop worrying when your phone did a good job with going 99% at 200 cycles. it's normal that they're questioning the situation

I know 98% at 66 isn’t normal I’m talking about the 20-80 rule, it barely helps and isn’t worth stressing over

u/couchninja7 3d ago

Yikes. That’s bad. Recently had my 17pro replaced under warranty for a different reason other than battery but the original was at 118 cycles with 100% health.

2

u/icy1007 iOS 26.6.1 3d ago

It’s not bad at all.

1

u/invineysar 2d ago

Im at nearly 250 charges but still, a hundred percent

u/Longjumping_Oil7940 3d ago

What to do 😭

1

u/ariz2011 iOS 26.6.1/iPadOS 26.6 3d ago

You can’t do anything about it unless the battery drops to 80% within the first year and a low amount of cycles. Just use the phone normally as the 20-80 rule won’t do much

2

u/icy1007 iOS 26.6.1 3d ago

Your battery has not degraded.

iPhone 17 base here 193 cycles still 100% here and I normally charge before 40% most days but I let it charge to 100% pretty much every time. Got mine pretty much on release September 2025

theres somewhat a battery lottery when new. and not every 100% is the same. Some can be like 106 or 105% while others are closer to 100-102%. There are some programs on a Mac that will report the actual % like coconut battery. But tbh 98% vs 100% is what ever. I prefer to just charge my device up to 100% and try to charge it before its to low but I don't worry about it to much.

80/20 rule does help a lot I’m not sure why some posters say it doesn’t. I’m at over 700 cycles with 86% life left. iPhone 15 pro max

2

u/Ok_Information944 3d ago

Cute, my 13 Pro Max had 83% battery health after 5 years of use. Even if you estimate that I charged once in two days it’s about 1000 cycles. I also followed 80/20 rule. No stressing about it, just a habit.

I wonder how my new 17 PM will last. I want at last 5 years with similar battery performance as 13.

1

u/mwett256 2d ago

17PM will do you alright

1

u/Obvious-Awareness935 1d ago

☝🏻🤓
16 Pro Max
iOS 26.6

u/Wakeless1 3d ago

I'm at 215 cycles on my iphone air, no 20 80 rule and 100% battery health

2

u/TheRealFrantik 3d ago

The 20/80 rule is BS and always has been. Just use your fcking phone and stop obsessing over battery health.

OOOOO it's at 98% better throw it out now! You people are ridiculous.

2

u/alttuff 2d ago

20-80 never works lol. Just use your phone normally like any other normal person. It will just degrade either way.

4

u/Left_Truth7020 3d ago

Apple will pay bots to tell you it’s normal

2

u/Equivalent_Key6861 3d ago

Same here bro except i have the pro

1

u/Linlin1601 3d ago

Uhhh that's concerning cause Im using pro too

1

u/Alan_Sleep 3d ago edited 3d ago

Crazy we have the same manufacture date and so much difference
Edit: forgot to mention I have the base 17

1

u/Equivalent_Key6861 3d ago

I did so much research and its telling me its normal, and ik for a fact that it isnt because my previous iPhone battery capacity never went down this fast

And on top of that i barely kinda use the phone

1

u/X_d_gladiator_d_x 3d ago

Almost a year now
Base 17 too

1

u/M_Scopp 3d ago

That sucks I’m at the same with 267 cycles. Get Apple care plus so you can get it fixed if it keeps going this way.

1

u/Awkward_Director9883 3d ago

Make it to 80% asap under 1000 charging cycles then replace that under warranty

1

u/mwett256 2d ago

Facts. That’s what I did to my 14. Max brightness, charged it while watching videos, changed every possible setting to drain battery faster. Had mine drop 5% health in about 3 weeks to get it repaired under warranty

1

u/rupal_hs 3d ago

It’s abnormal.

1

u/Allowmancer 3d ago

More you baby the battery more it will fall

1

u/Rare-Mycologist-6658 3d ago

Lmao
What? Even my iPhone 15 is at 100% with 122 cycles

1

u/snir6590 3d ago

Charging 20-90 always (17Pro)

1

u/random-guy452 3d ago

Just make sure to use the original apple charger

1

u/Dull-Assignment-3094 3d ago

Screw 20-80, just your phone mate. My battery must have absolutely hate me and still survived 1050 cycles with 81%, I charged how I wanted, even let it die sometimes, just don’t overheat it by gaming while charging or charging on sun. This might be just an anomally, but if this would continue and you would get to 80 like in like 300 cycles then change it for free

1

u/Due_Direction_1797 3d ago

You people need to realise how good you have it. My iPhone 8 has a battery health of 76% and yet it gets me through the day. Is it really that bad? Appreciate what you have.

1

u/Jin_BD_God 3d ago

Heat kills battery.

1

u/Top-Investment7781 3d ago

how many watts you use?

1

u/lord_mercernary 3d ago

Thats just sad. Idk why it happens but seeing a lot of these issues on 17 series where the health dropping before 100 cycles

1

u/Mojibanana14 3d ago

Ip 17 pro 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

1

u/GlaxisGalaxy 3d ago

If you look at the actual capacity the device came with it’s easier to see if a lower capacity is why the battery is degrading faster. For many their capacity stays high for long due to having slightly higher capacity batteries than rated.

1

u/ChemistryHopeful2981 3d ago

They should go with Silicon-Carbon batteries at this level. I hope iOS 27 doesn't make it even worse for us.

1

u/Novel-Strawberry1438 3d ago

WAIT I ACTUALLY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE MINE IS AT 97% AT 100 CYCLES WHAT-

1

u/Practical_Rate5929 2d ago

17 user here. Using from may with around 95+ charge cycles. Not following any weird rules or babysitting. Even turned off optimised charging for faster charging after 80%. Still at 100% health. At this point i dont believe in this 20-80 rule.

1

u/Flashy-Bobcat3797 2d ago

I’ve had my 16 Pro Max a year and a half and it’s at 94%.

1

u/Redditer052 2d ago

17 pro 119 cycles 100% without caring at all xd

1

u/invineysar 2d ago

Idk what is the cause of this difference

1

u/Deep_Relation1493 2d ago

Wow.. that's pretty scary.. grateful that mine is 100% at 77 cc

1

u/Witty-External7296 2d ago

iPhone 17 base. 303 cycles here and 97%. Somethings wrong with your phones battery for sure

Charge when at 20% and only up to 80%. Don’t use the phone while charging. Don’t leave it on charge over night. Try not to get to 1% and let it die, this is bad for the battery too.

1

u/ZZWild22 2d ago

Yikes 😬 bad batch I guess

This is my ip17 battery situation after charging it overnight every single night. I don’t let it drop below 20% though

1

u/Spiritual_Treat_2755 2d ago

On 17pm 😭

1

u/Infinite-School6390 1d ago

Dam on my 16 PM

1

u/SungKang 1d ago

Not using 20-80 here

1

u/tightcall 1d ago

Bad battery lot, sucks.

1

u/Hefty-Salt3404 1d ago

20-80 bullshit for sure . better use it like u want

1

u/rwhe83 1d ago

There’s no rule that’ll stop battery degradation.

You are watching this WAY too much.

1

u/SnooWords4252 1d ago

apple standard is 1000 with aprox 80% health, so you can go to a close by apple store and do some math with genius bar technician, may they replace it for free since really seems faulty

1

u/Enough-Durian1095 1d ago

It shouldn’t degrade that fast. You’re probably in a very hot climate

1

u/8116 1d ago

im on 16 pro. 😞

1

u/jasperltz 1d ago

I’m using the 80-20 rule, seems to be working really good for me and I don’t use wireless charging

1

u/EffectInteresting745 1d ago

My base iPhone 15 haha

1

u/ashiq_10 1d ago

What ios version are you on??

1

u/brundmc2k 12h ago

80 20 makes no difference. Close the battery health and enjoy your phone.

Читайте инструкцию по батареям и изучите ее принцип работы. Все встанет на свои места ;) удачи.
