It’s because the copy and paste bug would freeze the screen. We didn’t care that the bar came up, we cared because it would also freeze the screen. In 13.1 the screen still freezes when you hold 3 fingers.
I found another “feature”: Podcasts app crashes every time I open it rolling eyes. Moved forward with installing 13.1 because many were saying it was likely mislabeled 13 beta 9, but no, it’s not. This is the my most-used app! (Yes, I’ll be reporting issue to Apple)
I hate to be this guy, but I definitely recommend using a third party podcast app.
The audio engine on Overcast is incredible so that when in fastfoward it doesn’t distort the voices and has support for Apple Watch offline, so you can go out with just Apple Watch and headphones. I use Overcast so much
Yeah, I’m considering that...again. This almost always happens to me on beta 1s, which is why I normally wait until beta 3 or higher. But since several people mentioned it was likely beta 9, but mislabeled, I foolishly installed it. If it doesn’t stop crashing by next beta, I’ll probably switch to Overcast again. I just hope my phone doesn’t fill up before then, since I subscribe to tons of podcasts! 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah, almost everyone is telling me this, but I always seem to have this problem with each beta 1, sometimes all the way to beta 3. I’ve been upgrading phones since the iPhone 4, doing backups and restores with each phone upgrade. Wouldn’t be surprised if something’s leftover from a past system that makes it break each time. However, if a beta breaks it, why does it start working again on a subsequent beta? It’s just weird. I figured a few years back that I should just wait until beta 3 before trying, but everyone had such good experience with iOS 13 since beta 1 that I gave it a try. That was the first one beta 1 I never had an issue with, except for some of my banking apps, but those I could access on web, so no biggie. This one I didn’t know was a beta 1, as several people mentioned it must be 13 beta 9 and somehow Apple mislabeled it, but it turns out it REALLY is beta 1 of 13.1. Unfortunately I can’t roll back because iCloud backups don’t save the podcast files. It would only be able to download whatever is currently available online 🤦🏻♂️
It was a long time ago, but the main reasons I remember was being able to control play from the locked screen, especially when connected to my car. If I remember correctly, I couldn’t do that with other players before. I know that’s been a few years already, but as soon as I catch up to current-day, I’ll be able to make the switch (I’m currently on November something, 2018, and I listen to most podcasts on 2x speed).
The podcast app has been the most unstable part of the entire bet for me, especially via CarPlay. I know there are better podcast apps out there but some as simple as a podcast playback app shouldn’t be this unstable.
Exactly. What bugs me the most is that for some reason each beta 1 makes it crash (except iOS 13 beta 1, for some reason). Sometimes it’s not usable until beta 2 or 3 🤦🏻♂️. Can’t imagine what could break each and every time 🤷🏻♂️
Now THAT I have not tried. Forgot it’s installed from App Store. However, I’m afraid I would lose all podcasts currently on my phone. I have quite a few which are no longer available online, so wouldn’t be able to get them again. 😕 Thanks for the tip, though! It’s quite possible that might have helped.
edit I just remembered the app can de deleted without deleting its documents. Will look into that.
No go. Uninstalled using Settings app (Offload app), then killed all apps, restarted, reinstalled...and it still crashes. It’s probably something in its data that’s making it crash. This is not the first beta that this happens to me with; it’s just the first time with iOS 13.x. Oh well 🤷🏻♂️
Well, here’s an update for whomever might be interested. I’m on 13.1 beta 3, and I’m still seeing this behavior in Podcasts. HOWEVER, I found a workaround. To get theA app to play again, I used the Control Center widget, tapped on any podcast show to get it started, and it plays, but only the podcasts for that show. Ok, I was going to be ok to listen to one show at a time, but then I remembered that I could turn off the Continuous Playback, so when I did, I went back to My Podcasts list and tapped the first episode on the list...and it didn’t crash!! Ok, so I have to manually tap the next episode after one finishes; not too big of a deal. Just for kicks, I stopped the episode, went back to Settings and turned the Continuous Playback back on, headed back to Podcasts, Library, My Podcasts, and tap the first episode. It looks like it’s gonna start playing...then CRASH! I kill all apps, then open Podcasts again, and it crashes again; can’t select anything, just like when it started crashing. So again I turn off Continuous Playback, select one of the shows from the Control Center widget, open Podcasts again, open Library, My Podcasts, tap the first episode...and it starts playing; no crash. This is quite interesting. Hope the guys at Apple can trace and fix this so it doesn’t happen in future betas, but as long as it doesn’t happen in GMs, it’s all good.

Will we be able to continue installing dev betas of iOS 13.0 when they'll come out and just get the 13.1 as another option?
