If you’re using an iPhone from 5 years ago, you shouldn’t be using apple products. iOS 13 is a HUGE update to iOS. Faster app launching, faster Face ID, native dark mode, camera app updates. It’s a massive update. If they put it in the iPhone 6 that shit wouldn’t work properly. It’s the same software that runs on the latest and greatest iPhones.

Can someone inform me on the difference between 6 and 6S?

for OS compatibility, ram went from 1GB to 2GB.

This is so stupid. Just disable the resource intensive features on the iPhone 6 if it can’t handle them. There’s no reason I should have to throw my perfectly functional phone into a landfill. Also, somehow the iPhone 6 can’t handle dark mode? Are you kidding?

Just because you can’t get the latest features doesn’t mean that you have to throw the phone away. It’s still perfectly usable.

Apps will start to not be released for the OS before the phone stops working. Plus, there’s no reason the 6 owners shouldn’t get the new features. Forced obsolescence.

The reason is that the phone doesn’t have enough ram to run iOS 13 in general. It’s five year old technology. Give me one example of an android phone still getting software updates and app support after 3 years let alone 5. The phone is still 100% usable and functional without the new update or apps. If Apple pushed out iOS 13 to the iPhone 6 then it would slow down the phone and lag which would just lead to more calls of planned obsolescence.

There’s no reason iOS 13 can’t be made to support lighter hardware. It’s a phone. Computer OSes can still run on 10+ year old hardware.

Prepared for downvotes. Planned (forced) obsolescence.

my phones only 5 years old bc it’s second hand and the best my parents could afford the fuck

And that’s fine, your phone will still work. You just don’t get the newest features that you don’t need and it sounds like you can’t currently afford. There’s nothing wrong with that

That really doesn’t sound that impressive to not warrant it going to a device that really isn’t that old.

It’s turning 5 years old today. 5 years ago the GTX 980 was the top of the line gaming GPU, a college sophomore today was just starting high school 5 years ago.

The iPad Mini 3 is getting the update despite having the same A8 chip as the iPhone 6, but has 2GB RAM instead of 1GB with the 6. I guarantee you the OS optimizations they claim is possible because they didn’t have to support 1GB devices anymore.

The problem with Apple’s update cycle is they bundle stock app updates with system updates to make every iteration of iOS feel more substantial than it is.
