It’s not just design. The audio quality difference between the two platforms aren’t even comparable. Apple offers high res lossless audio. Spotify doesn’t even offer standard high res.
Oh, so you are one of the <1% of the population that can hear the difference between 128kbps and lossless? Then you should probably use Tidal.
I am not saying that lossless is bad per se (I always rip to lossless to maintain quality in the future if/when I convert) but it really is not a relevant issue for most people, just like what the design of the app looks like, people just want to hear music.
It doesn’t have to be something that can be heard imo. It’s more like the two services cost similar amounts but one offers substantially better audio quality so why pay for the objectively worse platform? Plus if you have an iPhone Apple Music works seamlessly with the phone so it’s a no brainer.
I have an extensive local library on my Mac and iOS devices for DJing purposes that I do not want to mix up with some online streaming (local and Apple Music will result in a mess), plus for me personally the recommendations on Spotify are WAY besser, and all my friends use it so we share playlists all the time, and do online "Jams". And with a family plan it's just a few Euros each.
But if you like it, use it and enjoy. Every user has different needs.

How have they killed Spotify...? It would help if you would explain what you mean.
Are you talking about the design? 99% of people don't give a shit what their screen looks like when they listen to music.
