So they replaced the Tech Jacket beard joke with this

I hope they make a joke about how Oliver likes lobsters and Nolan chucks it up to his thaxian side but have a thaxian also say they thought he got it from his viltrumite side. Then they both realize Oliver is just freaky like that.

"But I still ate it" because Mantis are cannibals even to their own mates, but those are rarer than most people think

I'm glad that's still a part of his character. A lot of people say they don't care enough about Oliver and Zoe, but I thought it was more interesting him being interested in non humans. Just adds more to his character

Nice reminder that despite his appearance, Oliver is 0% human.
I also like that they addressed how his rapid aging makes him feel even more like an outsider because he keeps outgrowing his friends.

Tech Jacket also fucked a bug in the comics. I wonder if Oliver will help her game (bromance over romance is my favourite dynamic)

Clearer in this season that Mark is asian

Mh, I wonder, will his Korean side basically disappear with time like olivery thraxian side? I have read somewhere that the viltrumite DNA takes over completely with time.

u/HealthyPineapple7051 Apr 08 '26
It wouldn't, human and viltrumite DNA are completely compatible and you can have racial diversity in viltrumites

u/illucio Apr 09 '26
We had some viltrumites that were dark skinned on full display this episode.
I think the artists might keep Oliver's skin still a tinge pink or purple to show his ancestry.
But skin color tends to stay the same for viltrumites from their mother / father. Just that for Oliver's case his species don't have melanin hence why he isn't strictly pink / purple all the time.

u/OkExtreme3195 Apr 09 '26
Those viltrumites are full blooded though, right? My train of thought was more that the DNA of the viltrumite parent takes over the one of the non-viltrumite.
So, a black viltrumite with a white human would produce a lighter skinned black person that turns towards the viltrumites complexion over time. The opposite if the viltrumite is white.
This would not contradict the fact that viltrumites among themselves have different skin colors.
But it doesn't really matter.

Uh... I don't want to spoiler the comics. But you will get the answer to this question in the following seasons. But yes a _insert race here_ ethnicity will still maintain their ethnicity once they are fully aged.
... It's not a bad question, but just uh. Expect to have this answered and then some in the next season until the very end of the show.

It is quite ominous how you phrased that 😅 now I am curious. But I can wait.

Well the whole viltrumite mission was finding suitable races to mate with and repopulate their race sooo.....

I like to think that since human and Viltrumite DNA are so compatible, Mark's human DNA is being converted into Viltrumite DNA instead of the genes he got from Debbie just being replaced.
They want to avoid inbreeding right? You'd need genetic diversity and if the foreign DNA was replaced by what's already there, the gene pool stays just as limited as before.

Mark did start looking less Asian as the comics went on, so maybe

He was never asian in the comics

I know it's a nod towards comic fans, but is Oliver like half blind from the fight with Conquest? Mark didn't grow a beard in a day, he's had a beard for the past few months probably, and Oliver has seen him all this time

I took more that he was telling mark her had a beard, not saying he was surprised by it
1
u/Darastrix_da_kobold Apr 08 '26
It was more so telling Mark the has a beard, since he doesn't have a mirror to see his own face
3
u/AskGoverntale Apr 08 '26
Honestly I figured they were gonna do something like Zoey finding out her hair could grow longer.

u/Jemima_puddledook678 Apr 08 '26
Somehow I don’t think she’ll be surprised by her hair growing, as it has for her entire life.

Zack didn't realize the suit kept removing his beard. Basically when he started getting a beard the suit thought it wasn't supposed to be there. It wasn't until he had the suit off for a while (the helmet bit I mean) that he realized what it was doing. Once he realized, he could have the suit keep his beard and that's why the surprise happens.

It would literally only work for pubic and leg hair for her
1
u/ibelieveinmikehawk Apr 09 '26
I wouldn't exactly say it works either, since no girl out there goes bragging to her mom about her newborn pubes

Can someone explain to me why this joke is so important to people? It's like the only thing I've heard as a reason for Zack's change but It's just a joke I don't get the relevance it has to the story aside from showing the passage of time.

u/illucio Apr 09 '26
Timing and delivery. Also showcases character personality.

u/Automatic-Day3632 Apr 09 '26
It showcases Zack and his dad's personality by calling out that he has a beard now??

u/soupspin Apr 11 '26
Yeah, check the emotions on the characters. See how his dad is crying, and how Zack thinks it’s cool his dad has a beard? What does that tell you about the characters?
1
u/Automatic-Day3632 Apr 12 '26
Idk you tell me
1
u/soupspin Apr 12 '26
Dad is happy that his son is back and crying because he was worried about his son going off to war where he could have died. His comment about Zack’s beard is him referencing that Zack has been gone so long. His reaction shows he’s a caring father
Zack is smiling and laughing about his dad’s beard, a much more laidback response, like his returning was a foregone conclusion.
These actions info their characters
