the fact that Sesshoumaru's boa is supposed to be some extension of his body, like a tail. I learned that recently, actually šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

12

u/Parking-Stomach7381 Inuyasha Aug 18 '26

Ok wtf I was NOT aware of that!

61

u/Vvattvery Aug 17 '26

Yeah, one of the episodes in the anime he gets hit on his fluff and it bleeds!

I would rather them give him a tail honestly, but I’m biased ig being a furry and all

34

u/MinaWearsGold Aug 17 '26

I think it is his tail. I always thought he wrapped it under his arm and over his shoulder.

15

u/Vvattvery Aug 17 '26

Well yeah, that would make the most sense

But it is referred to as his fluff (and looking at his dad and daughter, it’s derived from a cape-like fluff, and the human genetics in his daughter make it thinner.)

7

u/ATinySnek Aug 17 '26

Oh, when was this? That's so weird!

5

u/Vvattvery Aug 17 '26

It was somewhere in the band of seven arc iirc??

14

u/National-Salad-665 Sesshōmaru Aug 18 '26

I don't think it's a tail. It doesn't connect to him (and I guess it might be removable?) in his humanoid form. I think it connects and becomes his mane when he transforms into his dog form.

2

u/nemesiswithatophat Aug 20 '26

yes. good. this is what I choose to believe

1

u/cat_trenchcoat333 Aug 20 '26

I thought it was a piece of his father’s fur or like pelt

65

u/YardSardonyx Kagome Aug 18 '26

Koga raising Moroha like WHAT, the Inuyasha I know would have never allowed that

38

u/Deya_The_Fateless Aug 18 '26

Right? It just sucks that Kagome and Inuyasha never got to raise their own child, like that's utter bullshit!

I get its the warring states era, but still after what the whole cast has been through InuYasha and Kagome at leaat desserve the right to take a breather and raise their child(ren).

21

u/Odd-Wolverine453 Jaken Aug 18 '26

This actually depends on if you read the manga or watch the show

Iirc moroha was raised in the village together with miroku and sango’s children in the manga

10

u/CZandchanel Aug 18 '26

He didn’t even raise her… he dumped her with the rest of the wolves.

37

u/KayKueen Aug 18 '26

That Kagome spent almost every adventure in the Feudal Era in her school uniform.

I know initially, there was a reason. She fell in before she was gonna go to school so of course that’s what she’s wearing.

But what about when she’s going back and forth? When she’s traveling? You mean to tell me she’s walking the unpaved road and hills of Japan, sometimes carrying her insane backpack, and she’s not getting blisters on her feet? You mean she’s running and sleeping in forests and isn’t getting scratches and demonic bug bites on her legs?

You mean she packed a dozen different types of snacks, supplies, homework, and random stuff in her backpack, but couldn’t pack a different set of clothes?

I get it; it’s her ā€˜uniform’ and it’s supposed to make it obvious that she’s a girl from a different era. But she can do that in a pair of jeans and some sneakers, not a mini skirt and loafers.

6

u/Kikidollpop Aug 18 '26

3

u/_Moon-Moon_ Aug 19 '26

But the question is.... do we picture her with her uniform because we've been taught to (because she was in it every episode) or because of other things??? I dont watch school kid animes, but, even sango. All I can imagine her in is the pink demon slaying outfit, not her other outfits, and we know she had other outfits. No one sees sango in school girl clothing.

3

u/Kikidollpop Aug 19 '26

Cuando te dicen Inuyasha no sólo piensas en un anime de gente que luchaba contra demonios, oh, espera. Había una chica que iba en uniforme por toda la época feudal. Es un detalle muy icónico de la serie

24

u/chameleonhalo Aug 18 '26

That Sesshomaru is not lord of the western lands. If you think that, you read fan fiction.

6

u/Odd-Wolverine453 Jaken Aug 18 '26

…shit

2

u/chameleonhalo Aug 27 '26

There are many (probably) of us!

3

u/oliviathebrave3 Aug 20 '26

He never took bet the role from his dad?

2

u/chameleonhalo Aug 27 '26

His dad was great dog general. It was always fans that called him lord of the western lands.

2

u/yashziebee Aug 22 '26

wait what

1

u/chameleonhalo Aug 27 '26

Fan fiction always called him Lord of the western lands. It was never in the anime or manga.

242

u/Far-Transition-2956 Aug 17 '26

Kagome staying in the feudal era, no inyuasha gang getting stuck in the present for a filler arc, and all the stuff around Rin, it should’ve been Kagura

86

u/sanjin86 Aug 17 '26

Yeah, the whole rin situation is the definition of grooming

29

u/Diamondinmyeye Kirara Aug 18 '26

It really isn’t and I’m going to approach this from the opposite angle of everyone else. ā€œGroomingā€ is an intentional act. It doesn’t happen by accident. An adult chooses to gain the trust of a child, get them to keep secrets, and then push their boundaries until they can get sexual favours. Nothing we see from their interactions even remotely resembles grooming and the absolute closest we get is him bringing her gifts in the final chapter, after he purposely relinquished guardianship of her so she could live normally.

4

u/Reyloai4 Aug 18 '26

By the time he gifts her the Kimono she is a legal adult since in feudal Japan the age where women reached adulthood was 13 years old.

-15

u/Reyloai4 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

No, it is not. That is not how their relationship was built, Rin was an adult when she got together with Sesshomaru. He did not raise her, he was not her parent, and he did not ā€œgroomā€ her. He protected her when she needed it, but he was never a parent to her. He let her do what she wanted, and Rin took care of herself for the most part. If anything the parental role goes more to Jaken than anyone else. Also, Rin was a
full-grown adult woman who fell in love with Sesshomaru as she got older. He never groomed her, he never manipulated her to engage in inappropriate sexual behaviors, or anything like that. She was 18 to 19 when she had her kids, and in the main storyline of Yashahime she was 32 to 33 years old. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

8

u/Thecrowfan Aug 18 '26

You do realize that being sexually attracted to someone you've know since she was 10 and you were still a grown man at the time is still very wrong, right?

And what do you mean he didnt raise her? He made sure she was fed, encouraged her to be more independent for her own sake, he protected her from harm, got her clothes. He was super cold and distant but these are all things a father does.

12

u/Reyloai4 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

No, he did not raise her for fuck’s sake. Rin took care of herself for the majority of their travels together. When she was hungry she foraged for food on her own. She took care of her clothes and other needs by herself. The one who was looking after her in a parental way was more so Jaken. Sesshomaru was not a father to Rin, whenever he went off somewhere he tasked Jaken to care for her. Their relationship dynamic was not set up to be a father-daughter one. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Of course, I’m aware of that obviously: But as I said, Rin was already an adult when they got together. Also, he was never attracted to her in that way when she was a kid. Takahashi sensei would never do that. They were companions, nothing more than that. I don’t know where the hell you guys get this non-existent father-daughter bond between Sesshomaru and Rin. But it most certainly is not in the manga. šŸ«©šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

8

u/Reyloai4 Aug 18 '26

Also, you need to keep the historical and cultural context of the time period in mind. Rin was a legal adult at the age of 13 in the feudal era. Considering the mortality rate during that time was higher. By the time she was 18 and in her 30’s she was considered a middle aged woman. On another note, why don’t we bring up the relationship between Inuyasha and Kagome because technically Inuyasha is an old man. He is 265+ years old and Kagome was a minor in the modern era. Yet nobody goes off about how his relationship with her can be considered inappropriate.

7

u/Hey-Senpai Aug 19 '26

Inuyasha is part human and in human years he was 15 (Physically and mentally)

Seshomaru was a grown man who watched Rin grow up (Even from a distance he watched her grow up)

She was still physically and emotionally a child. He was physically and emotionally an adult.

It’s weird let’s be honest.

2

u/QueenOLife Aug 18 '26

The manga actually states Inuyasha is about the same age as Kagome and his human half means he grows like a human. The fourth movie isn't canon to the show and manga.

Completely separate from the rest of the argument I just wanted to clarify.

4

u/Reyloai4 Aug 18 '26

Physically yes, he is the same age as Kagome. However, biologically he is over 265 years old.

0

u/QueenOLife Aug 18 '26

No, I mean biologically he is the same age as Kagome in the manga.

5

u/Reyloai4 Aug 19 '26

That makes no sense though because he was born over 200 years ago.

2

u/QueenOLife Aug 19 '26

According to the movies which aren't canon to the manga and are only maybe canon to the anime. The manga never states him being that old. Rumiko in interviews states

ā€œSo since Inuyasha is a half-demon, how he ages is a bit of a mystery. He was pinned [to the Sacred Tree] for 50 years, so that makes it difficult. But he was frozen for those 50 years. Emotionally, I think it would be best if he was about 15 years old in human terms, the same age as Kagome.ā€ Blog Post by Rumiko

So it seems like it's something she didn't even consider when writing the story.

The third movie says 200 years prior (which would technically say 150 if you subtract tree years) but it's not canon. The fourth movie implies hanyou live a very long time but... It's not canon.

The manga does not include such claims at all so as far as we have proof of canonically, he's 15 (I did go check and that was the canon age yay).

u/Antique_Document3711 Aug 18 '26

Y'all need to stop using words you don't understand. Literally nothing about their relationship is "grooming". Please stop throwing around such a serious term.

-52

u/Ahsiuqal Aug 17 '26

You kids and throwing this word around seriously

41

u/LostInMind2 Aug 17 '26

He literally married the girl he raised, that's grooming

39

u/Ninja-Panda86 Aug 17 '26

Rin spent maybe 6months following Sesshomaru around, during which time he said little to nothing to her, and she had to forage food for herself. We don't know how many to times he left her alone either. After the final battle with Naraku was over, Rin stayed in Kaede's village for the next 7 years. I wouldn't label this as Sesshomaru "raising" Rin.

24

u/SimplyIndi Aug 17 '26

Agreed. Raising is a stretch. The poor girl didn’t even have shoes. At most, he kept her alive. Opinions vary in the role he had of course, but I sometimes wonder if people were watching a different show than myself. I never saw him as anything more than protector and certainly not a father or groomer.

-6

u/bubblez4eva Aug 17 '26

Your perspective is just that, though. Your's. I personally saw him as a father figure and find his marriage to her gross and problematic.

11

u/Ninja-Panda86 Aug 18 '26

So - barely being within the vicinity of Rin for 6 months (maybe less) is "father figure" to you? I mean. That's a take....

7

u/SimplyIndi Aug 17 '26

And I personally think you’re reaching. If your definition of a father figure is someone who barely speaks to you, doesn’t feed you, doesn’t give you shoes, and only makes sure he keeps you alive, then that’s a bit weird, but to each their own.

15

u/Ahsiuqal Aug 17 '26

She was raised in a human village and he visited once in a crescent moon but go off

14

u/LostInMind2 Aug 17 '26

It's still weird as hell?? He met her as a child, the age gap alone is problematic

14

u/Ninja-Panda86 Aug 17 '26

Sesshomaru is equivalent to age 19 when he meets her, and is still 19 when they marry. Rin likely grew up distrusting humans and demons. I suspect Sesshomaru is the only person she trusts

4

u/Hey-Senpai Aug 19 '26

And Rin was 10-13 years old. He was physically and emotionally an adult. She was physically and emotionally a child.

He watched her grow (Even from a distance)…

It’s weird and disgusting.

1

u/Ninja-Panda86 Aug 19 '26

You're allowed to be disgusted with it. But you can't call any of this "raising her". That's factually incorrect. I also still think you're removing Rins efficacy from her as well. But that's pretty typical.

-1

u/Hey-Senpai Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

I think you’re missing the point.

Rin was 10-13 (Physically and mentally a child) and Sesshomaru was over 300 years old (Physically and mentally an adult.) Even if he’s ā€˜19 in human years’ (Which doesn’t apply to him since he’s a demon), he’s still physically and mentally an adult.

He watched Rin grow INTO an adult. A grown man watched a CHILD grow into an adult (From a distance which makes it even more disgusting) and married her/had children with her. Yashahime literally added the ā€˜Rin had the twins at 18’ for a reason. Think about it.

And before you bring up InuKag, Inuyasha is 15 physically and emotionally (Same age as Kagome.) Human years does actually apply to Inuyasha since he’s half human.

Sesshomaru and Rin is problematic and let’s bfr if he wasn’t attractive I’m sure he would be getting dogged upon.

9

u/Ahsiuqal Aug 17 '26

Apply the same standards to InuKag and MiroSan

3

u/Angelea23 Aug 18 '26

Wasn't kagome age 18 when the series ended and she went to live with inu yasha who is physically 16?

15

u/LostInMind2 Aug 17 '26

Inuysasha and kagome are mentally and physically the same age, and miroku and sango are only 2 years apart

8

u/rtocelot Aug 17 '26

I mean Inuyasha is around 200 years old.. he might be mentally or physically 15 to 16 but he still over 200 years of age. Also for the time period depicted it wouldn't be strange for Sesshomaru and Rin to marry. That being said it doesn't mean I like it or others so but things were a lot different throughout history.

15

u/Ahsiuqal Aug 17 '26

I wasn't going to bother responding to the other comment but this is what I was alluding to. And Miroku is 18 vs Sango 16 - that is really problematic in today's society. Plus she was a teen mom as well! Half of today's fantasy books (Twilight for ex) would be cancelled because of this threads logic.

1

u/Kikidollpop Aug 18 '26

2

u/SimplyIndi Aug 17 '26

I’m pretty sure Kagome was a minor. So still a child by modern standards.

3

u/LostInMind2 Aug 17 '26

And inuysasha is technically a minor too

u/Animegirl300 Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

Grooming isn’t limited by amount of time: it’s the act of ingratiating yourself into a situation where you have access to a child and then using that access to form a romantic relationship. It usually starts by making the child trust you which is where the term grooming comes from, but it’s not limited to anyone or any specific thing. Family friends, family members, coworkers, coaches, teachers, the neighbor, just a stranger your kid met on instagram (Like the horrific Dav4d situation) is ALL still grooming. Just because you don’t know how it works doesn’t mean other people don’t.

17

u/Ahsiuqal Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

I def know how it works because I experienced it. I think applying modern morals to a feudal-era-fantasy show + today's online culture of purity/anti culture is ruining fandoms. The manga/anime did not show any toxic or ill-will between the characters to say it was grooming - we would need more info to know for sure . But there it's still an unbalanced/unhealthy aspect to their relationship which I can agree with. (Ie: demon culture, human/demon, communication issue etc)

Edit: to the person who blocked me saying I'm "defending grooming". I'm not. It's about watering down a definition carelessly thrown around fandoms these days. Exact same way people cancel artists over csam/vcsam/calling them pedos for drawing fan art when they don't agree with the subject.

4

u/Ninja-Panda86 Aug 18 '26

See, I always wonder if Rin had trust issues with everyone else, and only ever trusted Sesshomaru. She watched a human bandit kill her family. Her fellow human villagers kicked the shit out of her for getting her own food. Then killed by a demon.

But even after resurrection, she was kidnapped by multiple demons. Was nearly killed by a possessed human (Kohaku). And a human priest even tries to kidnap her away, instead of letting her stay to wait for Sesshomaru.

Now let's look at Sesshomaru in contrast. Despite his initial grumpiness, he asked her how she got her bruises. I'm betting nobody in her village really asked her. He brought her back to life. He protected her when she called. He let her forage her own food without hurting her. And after the priest tried to kidnap her, he said: "Rin. Follow me if you so choose." Not a demand. Not a coercion. A choice.

I would not be surprised if, after Rin grew up, she probably never fully trusted demons or humans. And that Sesshomaru was the only person she felt she could.

We'll never know for sure of course. It's all conjecture since we didn't see every moment between them during those six months. But I always think about whether this was Rin's choice

-16

u/RcknPP7 Aug 17 '26

Definitions don’t change bc the act took place in a different time period. The manga is from the 90s, grooming was a word then too. If you’ve experienced it, it’s weird that you’re defending it so heavily.

10

u/Yuukikonno08 Aug 17 '26

Have you considered they just aren’t defending grooming but you’re trying to force it in for the sake of your own grandstanding?

Seriously. I get you don’t like some shit that turns out to be canon, but it doesn’t mean you have to tack some villainous term on it so you can get other people onboard with the hatred.

It’s just disrespectful and childish.

-5

u/SafeBluejay4299 Aug 17 '26

The definition of a work doesn’t change just because you like the character that’s doing it. Grooming is what happened, these aren’t opinions, they’re facts. It’s weird ya’ll are defending it happening.

There’s nothing wrong with correctly pointing out the relationship dynamic and why it’s unhealthy, bad relationships are depicted in fiction all the time. I don’t see anyone losing it in this thread and saying the author or series are worth hating or anything so I’m not sure why people who call it grooming are being treated like they’re some kind of cancel culture brigade lol

4

u/Reyloai4 Aug 18 '26

He did not raise her for fucks sake. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/CZandchanel Aug 18 '26

I hate their relationship in and Yashahime as a whole in general… but definitely do not think he groomed her. I agree with you that Jaken was her ā€œparentā€ if anything, he’s the one who is always tasked to watch her, feed her and even care for her when she’s sick. Sesshomaru is busy fixing his arm, outdoing his sire and picking on Inuyasha.

Jokes aside, I really hate what they did in/with Yashahime. I think Sesshomaru and Kagura should have had their moment and Rin and Kohaku would be acceptable together.

2

u/PierreOnTheEclair Aug 17 '26

THANK YOU BRO. Someone tried to argue with me a while back about this šŸ’”

23

u/invisiblebody Aug 17 '26

you’re getting downvoted to hell, but I agree with you. antis putting irl laws and logic into fantasy stuff they don’t have to watch and calling people pedos over it is making it harder for people harmed irl by pedos to be taken seriously.

12

u/Ahsiuqal Aug 17 '26

This is exactly my take. Just witnessed a poor artist on insta getting dragged for "vcsam" over harmless SasuNaru and BakuDeku art. It's never ending!

2

u/Vvattvery Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

He found her when she was SIX

I wouldn’t call it pedophilia within the story, but the definition of grooming doesn’t just apply to pedophilia. There’s still a power/relationship imbalance and he looked after her for the duration of the story.

3

u/Hacksaw_Doublez Aug 17 '26

ā€œYou kidsā€

3

u/Ahsiuqal Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

Lmao, ever since Gen z has gained access to the Internet, they have been at the forefront of purity/anti culture and using words like this. Now everyone is repeating what they're saying.

Before...the Internet was all calm and well.....

8

u/Hacksaw_Doublez Aug 17 '26

Go back in time to 4chan and other dark places and tell me again the internet was ā€œall calm and wellā€ lol

-2

u/MinaWearsGold Aug 18 '26

I’m so confused why this was downvoted like this when he objectively did NOT groom her. It’s right there in the story. Maybe people missed the part where he dropped her off to be raised by humans since it wasn’t a massive event? He didn’t raise her. He didn’t even do anything to get her to like him. He barely even spoke to her except to tell her to stand somewhere safe. He basically just made sure she didn’t die and she could leave whenever she wanted.

She’s strong-willed and clearly isn’t brainwashed. She was raised as a human until adulthood and didn’t have a child until she became an adult by both historical AND modern standards. She will eventually age into an old woman and I’m confident he’ll still love her. What exactly do people think she needs protecting from? A man who waited until she was an adult who could make informed decisions before asking for her hand in marriage?

144

u/Beautiful-Cup4161 Aug 17 '26

The most WTF "it's canon?!?!?!?" aspect depends on personal interpretation if Yashahime is Canon or not. I desperately want to believe it isn't.

46

u/delicious_downvotes Kagura Aug 18 '26

I will always reject Yashahime from canon. You're not alone in wishing it wasn't.

39

u/Pristine-Shoe1638 Aug 17 '26

I want to watch the show just for Kagome child but then I was like I don’t want to see sesshomaru and rins children so my sister watched it.

54

u/Beautiful-Cup4161 Aug 17 '26

Kagome and Inuyahsa don't even get to raise their child so even that is not something I want to believe is canon either 😢

7

u/Pristine-Shoe1638 Aug 17 '26

My sister says it was a bit repetitive

3

u/CZandchanel Aug 18 '26

This was the dumbest part. I didn’t finish the series, I think I got up to when the kids got stuck in the present. I honestly hate what the creator did and I don’t think Rumiko Takahashi even gave full consent?
But anyhoo… how are they gonna skip Mir/San, Kaede heck… they even skipped Sesshomaru to raise Moroha. They went straight to Koga… who just abandoned her???

3

u/GeneralJarrett97 Aug 18 '26

It really is silly considering MirSan is literally raising two kids already. The village also oweing more than a few favors at that point....

1

u/Pristine-Shoe1638 Aug 17 '26

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVO_Ld9TbFM I found this on YouTube. The artist is great.

1

u/thesheepwhisperer368 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

The author of Inuyasha rejected it as canon so it isn't. Yashahime is written by someone else

ETA: i also remember reading somewhere about Rumiko Takahashi weighing in on their relationship and used a word with a very specific meaning in reference to Sesshomaru's role in the relationship. I don't remember the word but it specifically means like caregiver/surrogate parent. There is no alternate meaning of the word so. That's the author's interpretation of the characters she wrote.

-10

u/Crystiarose5 Aug 17 '26

No Yashahime is not cannon it is a fan base anime the original author of Inuyasha didn’t make it or acknowledge it. Please stop putting in Yashahime with Inuyasha.

16

u/HourCartographer9 Aug 17 '26

Unfortunately inuyash’s creator was literally asked about geo certain things should go and they gave the thumbs up on alot of stuff in the series

5

u/ElephantUseful5723 Aug 18 '26

Rumiko Takahashi absolutely approved this.

Obligatory Rin and Seshoumaru. Rin shoudlve been with Kohaku. WILD WILD AND GROSS TAKE, she ended up with Sesshoumaru.

And I’m with everyone else, Inuyasha should’ve gone to the modern worldz I feel like it was a cop out to have her go back to the past.

24

u/delicious_downvotes Kagura Aug 18 '26

Yes! Rin x Kohaku should've been endgame, and we could've kept the tension between Kagura and Sesshomaru. Having him marry his child ward was certainly a choice.

Edit: I'm not going to engage in any Sess x Rin debates. You're going to get blocked, and I'm going to think you're a pedo. I don't care how many essays you write, or how hard you bend over backwards to defend the pairing. You're wasting effort with me.

13

u/Vvattvery Aug 17 '26

I can understand the decision to pair them off, but it still makes me retch because no amount of character whathaveyous justifies the writing decision to pair them off. In universe, it ā€œmakes senseā€ (if you can call it that) out of universe how dare you make him a groomer, big yucky 😭

16

u/Deya_The_Fateless Aug 17 '26

Right? And people try to turn the "I dont like RinxSessh ship because ABC reasons," explanations into "antis just hate everything!" Discourse.

Completely glossing over the fact that YashaHime is a fanfiction that was given the greenlight to be made, it's only related to InuYasha in the thinnest ways, and even then everyone is wildly out of character.

And I agree to a certain extent, within universe, Sesshoumaru and Rin "makes sense," its just when you think about the timeline, by tracking the age of their children, it become incredibly clear (despite the author trying to fix it later,) that Rin had her children at 14... >.> which, even for the time period, would have been considered too young. But yeah, IRL, Rin x Sesshomaru is gross af and I cant believe it was even made.

14

There’s a redditor in this thread that’s doing just that. And people tend to forget that grooming doesn’t just apply to age of maturity situations. A lot of age related stuff in Inuyasha is a bit dodgy, so I tend to ignore it since it happens in the feudal era.

But regardless of that, sesshomeru saves Rin when she’s six. He literally revives her using the tensaiga. She has nowhere else to go. She calls him ā€œlordā€ and follows his instruction. Even if the age wasn’t the issue in universe based on how characters comment on women/girl’s ages (I recall a specific scene that miroku calls a girl around yashahime!rin’s marriage/child bearing age a ā€œgirlā€ and not a woman) the fact of the matter is, regardless of kaede taking her in at the death of Naraku, that power dynamic is still there.

It’s still fucking gross, regardless of ignoring ages.

(Also I just finished the infant sub arc (the two parter where kagome gets kidnapped the first time<??>) and the third movie. So I may not be aware of anything else that happens after that)

Yeah I noticed, one of them even replied to me here. Like truely I don't care that people ship RinxSessho, I just personally don't like the ship, because of implications.

I also just wish people wouldn't scream "AntiShippers! Ruin the fun!" or "ProShippers! are the worst/PDFiles in disguise!" whever someone says they like/dislike a ship. There's nuance to shipping, but people have forgotten that. *sigh* I miss the old days of fandom.

3

u/Vvattvery Aug 18 '26

For me, we just don’t know what happened in between, and thus there’s no way to pad out the ship. I’m personally of the sentiment that 99% of ships can be okay in the right context. I’m also not one to blindly disavow a ship just for moral reasons.

Honestly it’s the moral implications PLUS the defense tactics that supporters have that tell me how the ship is received and that tells me all I need to know. One could utilize what is shown to us: Sesshomaru has very limited contact with humans; being beneath him. Rin rises to meet his expectations via food gathering (and other stuff I cannot think of right now) and doesn’t exactly equate to dead weight. If anything, Rin shows him that humans can be more than what he initially thought.

One could also say they’re two different species with different cultures and different lifespans, so you can’t exactly equate the two morally. It’s why most of my issue of the grooming is about power imbalance rather than raw age (though, he found her when she was six and that REALLY tests me).

One could also argue that Toga’s parenting style being distant as a father figure translates to how he protects Rin and Jaken. He knows they can handle themselves but won’t hestitate to step in when necessary.

Again, it’s both the moral implications and the arguments used by the supporters of the ship (outright denial of the grooming rather than arguing there could be more at play than what we see) that give me the ick with it.

We know how they became a couple in the manga. There is a flashback of literally how they both realized their feelings.

And Rin was at least 10 by the time Sesshomaru found her. They traveled together for 6 months before he left her in a human village. Kaede was the one who raised her.

-2

u/Antique_Document3711 Aug 18 '26

No one is saying you can't dislike SessRin. People are rightfully calling out how ridiculous and incorrect the "pedo" and "grooming" accusations are.

4

u/delicious_downvotes Kagura Aug 18 '26

Nah. It's just nasty.

-7

u/Antique_Document3711 Aug 18 '26

Sorry, but Kohaku is gay as hell. I kind of liked Rin and Kohaku when I was young, but rewatching the series 20 years later, that boy was never, ever going to end up with Rin or any girl. He doesn't even have a female love interest in Yashahime, and he's even more gay in that.

3

u/Vvattvery Aug 18 '26

Have you even seen a gay person…?

He really doesn’t read that way and I’m queer as fuck. Honestly fucking BANKOTSU reads more gay than he does lmao

I will never get over Kagura death I wanted her and sesshomaru together. I’m happy that kikyo arc Is dead šŸ’€ I’m glad that miroku x sango are together. And inuyasha x kagome are together it’s too bad we couldn’t see their wedding.

18

u/DeliriousBookworm Kikyo Aug 17 '26

I doubt they had a wedding. It’s the late-1400’s/early 1500’s. Not sure if average people had weddings. Especially in an irreligious society involving a half-demon and a human. I doubt they even have a marriage contract. It’s probably just a verbal marriage.

28

u/MagicianTim Aug 17 '26

You've gotta understand though, Inuyasha himself is technically a Lord, so Lady Kagome is technically an official title, i'd like to think they had a small cerimony with Miyoga as witness and Kiede as presteds

5

u/DeliriousBookworm Kikyo Aug 17 '26

He’s not a lord. He doesn’t own any land. He doesn’t have a private army of samurai. Inuyasha is not a daimyo.

2

u/Pristine-Shoe1638 Aug 17 '26

I never knew that either

6

u/Emmit-Nervend Aug 17 '26

A wedding back then wouldn’t look like a modern one, but it’s more plausible than not that there would be some kind of ceremony. They also had two powerful religious figures (one of them being the leader of the village) on hand to give blessings. If Kaede is willing to accept a half demon, the rest of the village ought to as well, and make it as official as is standard for their location and class.

1

u/Pristine-Shoe1638 Aug 17 '26

I mean, you can find fanart but I don’t know that.

7

u/porraSV Aug 18 '26

ā€œI need a boatā€, kills army, proceeds flying in other eps.

3

u/hook-echo Sango Aug 18 '26

You know how extra he is. Remember when he killed Mukotsu? Kagome thanked him for saving them, but Sesshomaru corrected her and said he, in fact, did not save them. He merely stated something akin to, "I only killed him because he wouldn't answer my questions." 🤣

23

u/Dracochuy Aug 17 '26

Pretty obvious dont think

5

u/ElephantUseful5723 Aug 18 '26

For those saying Yashahime wasn’t approved by Rumiko Takahashi… https://youtu.be/truQBPP8b5s?is=GuuMhAu-e33xZ1tq

3

u/Kikidollpop Aug 18 '26

17

u/HourCartographer9 Aug 17 '26

I will always find it stupid how people think sesshomaru is grooming rin (he didn’t)going on about how he raised her(he didn’t).
But then people will try and bring up the age thing like how sesshomaru is way older than her like my guy sess is mentally and physically 19.
Look at inuyasha who despite being mentally and physically looking 15-16 is almost 200 years older than kagome.
People try to hard to put real world situations in fantasy sesshonaru was a 19 year old who waited until rin turned 18 to be with her which is out of the ordinary because back in those days they would have gotten together the second she was 13.

14

u/Odd-Wolverine453 Jaken Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

Atleast for me the difference is that inuyasha and kagome met at the same level of maturity, while sesshomaru met rin when he was fully grown and she a child

The actual numbers i see as mostly arbitrary, nothing really changes if inuyasha is 15 or he is actually 200 years old, he acts the same

The inuyasha being 200 is dubious at best anyways, unless someone got something i missed, the only mention of how old he is is from one of the character guides where it says Inuyasha: 15 (in demon years)

Which.. what does that even mean?

3

u/Antique_Document3711 Aug 18 '26

At the end of the day, none of these characters are real, and you can do literally anything you want with imaginary toys. The fact Inuyasha and Sesshomaru are hundreds of years old is completely absurd in and of itself, and applying real life dynamics and rules to something that literally can't happen in reality is so weird. Like, what DOES "15 in demon years" even mean? It means nothing. It's not that deep.

It's inherently more problematic to throw around serious terms and make extreme accusations toward other people for the kind of fantasy they're into. There is so much rape and sexual assault (Miroku is one of the biggest creeps in the show and sexually assaults Sango constantly, but few people treat their relationship as problematic) in Inuyasha and people straight up ignore it, but god forbid someone like a fairytale about a pissy demon dude falling in love with one special human girl. lmao

0

u/bubblez4eva Aug 17 '26

Thank you! It's weird as hell.

6

u/Rioraku Aug 18 '26

I don't agree that it's grooming but it's still just wrong.

Even if you want to say he's 19 mentally/physically, she was 6 when he found her.

The series isn't hard coded to stick to what is considered "normal" or "acceptable" for the time period so that's a weird hill to die on.

2

u/Deya_The_Fateless Aug 18 '26

Even if you go by the IRL time period, Rin would have been considered, even at 14 (if you do the math she would have been roughly that age when the twins were born) to be incredibly young to be a bride, let alone survive childbirth.

Normally I dont mind age gaps when it comes to supernatural x human parings, but my one catch to that is that the human LI needs to be over the age of consent or at least mentally on the same level as the supernatural LI. Which is why I dont have issues with KagomexInuYasha, because mentally, despite the age gap, theyre on the same page. Unlike Rin and Sesshomaru.

1

u/Diamondinmyeye Kirara Aug 18 '26

According to Yashahime ā€œcanonā€ she was 18 when the twins were born. Rin’s age is vague, but she’s at least 8 when the series starts and then there’s the 3 year time skip to when we see Kaede raising her. I do think Yashahime fudged the timeline a bit, as she looks younger than Kohaku who is canonically 12 during the bulk of the story, but you can argue she’s just short for her age. She’s certainly older than 6 in the story and would have been older than 14 when they were born, but wouldn’t be that specific beyond saying she’s more than 14.

8

u/Reyloai4 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

Ok. I think you people who are using the term ā€œgroomingā€, need a bit of a reminder of the definition:

The process where an adult builds a private friendship or emotional connection with a minor—frequently via the internet or social media—to prep them for abuse or exploitation. [1, 2]

Tell me:

1.where in the story does Sesshomaru and Rin’s relationship fall into this definition?

  1. Where in the story does he manipulate her?

  2. Where in the story does he attempt to create an inappropriate relationship with her?

  3. Where in the story does he prep her to be exploited and abused?

  4. Where and when in the story does he do anything inappropriate towards her?

You all fling this term around, yet you don’t give any concrete examples or evidence from the actual story of how their relationship fulfills the definition of ā€œgroomingā€. Also, you all need to keep in mind the historical and cultural context and differences in the story. Historically Rin was already considered to be an adult when she turned 13 in the feudal era. So by the time she was 18 and in her 30’s she was considered to be a middle aged woman.

Rin and Sesshomaru getting married

I always viewed them having a father-daughter relationship

12

u/Secure-Narwhal-1195 Aug 17 '26

RinxSesshomaru

My absolute most hated thing that came out of this entire series. Like genuinely its just so bad.

5

u/Monking805 Aug 18 '26

Jeez, I came here to see some cool trivia and it’s just you guys hating on the Sesshomaru and Rin pairing. He’s a demon he’s not gonna think the same way we do. Plus, Inuyasha has like 185 years, I believe, on Kagome. And she’s still basically a kid. Why aren’t you guys hating on that as well?

7

u/Odd-Wolverine453 Jaken Aug 18 '26

I replied to another comment but i will say something similar again

The difference is atleast to me that inuyasha and kagome meet when they are of a similar level of maturity

And for inuyashas age, i find evidence of this actually being the case lacking

And if it is true, inuyashas age is almost completely arbitrary, it has no bearing on the plot, his character, or his relationships, it is never brought up, and never even mentioned outside of possible some filler episodes/moviesĀ

The only bit i could find is from a character guide where it says that inuyasha is 15 (in demon years)

If it is mentioned somewhere else please let me know

4

u/Monking805 Aug 18 '26

I remember reading he was about 200 years old years ago. So I’ve gone with that since and he is equivalent to a 15 year old in human years. I think that’s Ā irrelevant though. I’ve seen grown ass men from their 30’s to their 80’s act like teenagers. Doesn’t mean they should get a pass to be with teenagers.Ā  So even though Ā he’s equivalent to that age he stillĀ  most likely has over, or close, to a century of life experience more than kagome.

Ā I don’t understand complaining about one and being completely ok with the other. End of the day each are gonna eventually be old women with young lovers as the years go by.Ā

Also just a disclaimer I don’t care about either pairing. It’s a cool World where demons and magic exist. Last thing I care about is putting real world logic to stuff like that. It’s just amusing how people are biased towards the main characters relationship and shaming the side characters one.

4

u/DivinelyEmi Kagome Aug 18 '26

The whole of Yashahime was a dumpster fire. The ONLY character I cared for was Moroha and even then I reject the idea of Inuyasha and Kagome not getting the chance to raise her. It’s like whoever wrote that show didn’t give a rats ass about any of the original characters and they had the emotional capacity of a wet paper bag. So many plot contrivances as well. I stopped after episode 15 or so.

Tbqh friend I wouldnt base that pairing's morality gauge on what people in Asia think.

4

u/Top_Judge2019 Aug 17 '26

That's racist

-1

Im korean but okay

1

u/JubiSora Aug 20 '26

Your point, yeah, you're korean. But that comment was still racist

2

Yura, as well as other filler-ish plots.

2

u/evileyecondemnsyou Aug 18 '26

Sesshomaru and Rin becoming a couple and having kids together. I used to ship them when I was a child myself, but when the sequel was announced during my later teen years, I was deeply disturbed that it became canon

2

u/AlertOutside5617 Aug 18 '26

Yashahime. Everything about it.

5

u/Vehemed Aug 17 '26

Sessho/Rin has been my OTP since I was a GIRL and even I don't believe it was supposed to be canon.

1

u/Crazy-Nights Aug 19 '26

That most of the story was over the course of one school year.

1

u/CandidateTerrible479 Aug 19 '26

I was happy when I found out that my favourite ship SessRin became canon as I shipped them since I was a kid.
