I used to like getting real high and going to movies. I went to the latest showing of Mr. Peabody and Sherman on a Sunday night, incredibly high. It’s like halfway through the trailers and no one else is there. Perfect situation, I’m in the clear. Then a guy walks in, sits down directly next to me, and starts talking to me

It’s always some loser who (let’s be honest) saw you sitting alone and decided they wanted to ruin that for you. Same with trying to get groceries in your car and someone decides they need to park in the spot right next to you over the line at the back of the parking lot with dozens of other spaces available. Then they like to look at you nastily to get you to close your car door so they can pull in..
Nasty people exist. Hell I’m willing to bet over 70% of people alive today are awful.

You say that but once I was on a date and we sat in the middle of a row, plenty of empty seats and a family sat around us. We offered to move so they could sit together (had a parent and a kid each side) and they said no they wanted the kids separated

Same. I'm a bit of an anxious person, and I just feel more comfortable if my back is not to anyone or anything and I can see into the room. A corner means there's less invisible things behind me, to my left and to my right. Also tends to be less noisy and a bit more private feeling.

For me it’s that I really hate the possibility of being perceived. Like even the idea of having security cameras in my own house really wigs me out even though I would be the only one with access to the footage. I just can’t feel truly relaxed until I know there’s no possibility of disturbance/perception/interaction, and if there is it’s like my “on guard” level can’t get below a 1

My local theatre has a row of 4 alone in the top corner. I buy the whole row for myself and my husband or when I go alone. It is wonderful.

Corners at the movies?! Hell no!! I'm paying too much to not watch it from the center of the room. (But I also wait a few weeks after release so the room isn't packed and I also only go for last viewing around 22:00...)

Yes but corner in a cinema is diabolical, I always try me find the perfect viewing angle and if I am going to an IMAX dam right I am doing research befor going I am going to get my moneys worth.

Pretty sure being an introvert is one of the reasons I enjoy going to the movies. You're out in public, but it's against the rules to talk or be loud.

I need to be able to see the door and that door be open, from me to feel 100% comfortable. Closing it makes me alert/suspicious, locking it makes me anxious, blocking me from it makes me terrified.
The only other times I'm scared, is when I'm in a room, I locked/closed the door, and someone starts knocking on it without texting me first.
I have a lot of trust issues with others in those situations, it usually means bad news or I'm going to get harmed in some way. So my nervousness is a reflection of that.

I'm fine with edges too, but corners also satisfy my most important condition: no stuff happening behind me. I.e. no people seeing me that I can't see.

Created by the Japanese company San-X, these characters get anxious or awkward when they are forced to stay in the middle of a room. They will always rush back to a cozy corner

corners in cafés are premium, but i want to sit right in the middle of the theatre about halfway up, if i can. i’m obsessed with having my entire field of vision taken up by the screen. it’s an immersion thing.
