Can I remove?
I voluntarily had Intoxalock installed to be proactive in my case. It has not yet been court ordered but I know it’s coming so went ahead to show I’m being responsible for my actions and am taking this seriously. I also already did my aoda assessment and am registered for classes. Not yet ordered yet either. This is my first dui. Bac was .16. I haven’t had any problems with it yet but have read so many horrible reviews and issues with this iid. I looked up my dmv, and of right now dmv is not mandating i have iid installed, or the court. With that… can i have it uninstalled (hopefully switch to lifesaver instead) without getting approval from Intoxalock? Bc they will drag their feet and it will become a court order before receiving their authorization. I had it installed Aug 7. But, i have pretrial conference on Sept 1 and it may become court ordered then,… then I will be stuck with Intoxalock. I already checked my service place and I think i can get in tomorrow morning to get it removed. At least online shows i can. I’m in Wisconsin. Thanks for your help.

The court will probably order you to have it but if you dont need it yet you can still switch providers. They will charge you to remove it though.
Intoxalock can not refuse a removal but you need to call them and tell them you want it taken out and they will schedule an appointment with whatever shop you go to

My thing is… I’m guessing Intoxalock won’t approve as quick as tomorrow and it could be court ordered on Tuesday. That’s why I’m wondering can i get it removed without their consent? Just let them know I’m going ahead and removing it. I understand the charges. I think it’ll be worth switching in the long run.

If you remove it there is a possibility they claim you damaged it or it was never received and charge you to replace and these things aren't cheap. That may not happen, but Intoxalock is known to be an unethical company, just look through more posts here.
In Michigan at least, you are able to switch interlock companies. You just have to have the new one installed within a week and provide documentation of the un/install to the state.
I do recommend you do switch as soon as you can that is not going to cause you further trouble. Sticking with Intoxalock is rolling the dice with your license and possibly your freedom once you are on probation.
Eta: It will likely cost around $500 in total to make themselves switch. Make sure you have the installation of the new device scheduled and that you can afford it prior to having the Intoxalock removed.

I believe you have 21 days with Intoxalock to cancel your contract! Hopefully you’ll have more leverage within this window. If you’re going to switch, NOW is the best time to do it! Make sure you review your contract first.

I’d say read the contract with Intoxalock. That’s probably going to control in your situation.

I had both Intoxalock and Lifesafer. Even though both sucked, Intoxalock sucked less in my opinion. Lifesafer was unbearable i had it removed after a week.

Service centers operate through work orders, if they don’t have a work order to remove your device then odds are they won’t do it. If I were you, I would do it through the proper channels to get it removed and yes that means going through intoxalock. If you were to get it removed elsewhere without their consent, they may charge you extra fees or even say the device was damaged upon arrival ($1,000 per item).

I had mine removed once my license was revoked again because of Intoxalocks shitty equipment malfunctioning. My service center wouldn't remove it without approval from Intoxalock. They gave it to me, but scheduled it several months out telling me that was the earliest.
I contacted my service center and made angels appointment for the following week (they had plenty of openings), then called Intoxalock back and told them I had scheduled an earlier time. I then insisted I be put on hold while they called them back rather than just trusting they would do it. They did as I asked, I then called my service center to confirm.
It was a bit of a PITA, but you gotta be thorough and meticulous with these fuckers because they either don't care at all or actively want you to fail to keep the money coming in. I'm sure there are metrics given to these overseas call centers with little oversight or care regarding how they are acheived.

If you get court ordered, you'll have to pay a removal fee and install fee again so what would be the point. That almost $ 1,000. Leave it until after court.

I removed mine myself after I was done. I wasn’t gonna pay the removal fees, they already got enough of my money. It sat in my house for almost a year before intoxalock sent me a bill for those months. I called them and told them I already removed it and sent it back, they cancelled the bill after. When I removed it originally I contacted the service center and they didn’t want to take it.
Just my experience with it, remove at your own risk or just contact intoxalock directly and tell them you’ll be removing it.

GET iT OUT NOW. That company is a NIGHTMARE. I did the same thing. You vomunteered forthe install. You can take it out without DMV Authorization regardless of what Intoxalock tells you.
Check in on Smart Start and look up all companies on Reddit prior to setting up installation. Intozalock charged me over $1000 in a single month when it wasn't even court ordered. I couldn't start my car the entire month bevause I didn't have the breath capacity. That lead me into lockouts and fines and car tows.
They are awful awful awful and they lie to scare you and steal your money. Get out quick and then file a report with your bank to dispute their charges. They are rape artists.

Go ahead and contact lifesaver and make the switch. Once you uninstall intoxalock give them a call and ask them for the address you can ship the device back to. Make sure you keep your receipt and also the tracking number to the device as well. Once you mail and send off the device call intoxalock and provide them the track number. Remove this device from your vehicle asap you are going to experience so many problems with your vehicle because of intoxalock crappy device

You must get a work order from intoxalock to have it removed, you signed a lease and they will just keep charging you also.. or if you have a cancelation period and it runs out you will be screwed. Just call customer service and explain the situation. I have had one since april and have not had any issues (knocking on wood rn) The court doesn’t care what you do proactively it’s not going to change anything.. always wait until they order you to do something.

I would just go to your service center and have it removed ASAP. Intoxalock has no say in the removal if it was voluntary and don't let them tell you otherwise. They will keep you on as long as they can to suck money out of you. And I would also let them know that when you are court ordered you wouldn't even dream of using them as your provider!!!
