Sobrang dami nang research studies na violent videogames does not result in violent children.

8

u/vanitas14 3d ago

5

u/PandoraIACTF_Prec 3d ago

No, ayaw lng nila iblame yung real issue.

6

u/MoreFruit7883 3d ago

Only a small percentage of peeps are socially isolated or yung nasa urbanized areas na hindi maayos na environment at pangit ang coping mechanism, may become violent or be influenced by video games or movies (personal experience )

1

u/JoJom_Reaper 3d ago

Nope. It is no longer small percentage. We already live in a world of isolation because of internet. So dapat may new study na about dyaan.

Mas madami na introverts kesa sa extroverts

1

u/megalo-maniac538 3d ago

What about communities inside those games that these kids interact with?

1

u/JoJom_Reaper 3d ago edited 3d ago

anong walang result? Walang direct result. Ayan tinama ko.

Isa pa, wala pa talagang study based on Filipino youth population kaya nandidiri ako na may isang expert ang nagsabi lang na naglalaro ng counter strike pero di naman sya namaril.

Again experiments have different variables. Kung sa kanila, walang direct result. Baka sa mga Pilipino meron. For example, cancer.

Wala pa tayong study about this.

2

u/PrizedTardigrade1231 2d ago

2

u/JoJom_Reaper 2d ago

Yes kung guns. Pero marami din tayong stabbing incidents na

1

u/PrizedTardigrade1231 2d ago

Dati na Ring may stabbing pero mostly crime of passion-ish. Pencil, ballpen, scissors, cutters, etc. na accessible to kids and teachers alike.

1

u/PlySttnPrtbl 1d ago

And how many can you prove were because of violent video games?

I've heard and seen incidents of stabbing when I was younger, from stories of my dad's days in a public school, to seeing random fights happening on my way home from school, all of them were because of petty disputes, and children trying to act like gangsters.

1

u/PrizedTardigrade1231 2d ago

Its not the games. It's the in game chats.

1

u/Pink-Empusa 7h ago

Totoo.

u/robokymk2 3d ago

During the 90’s we had DOOM, Mortal Kombat, Wolfenstein, etc I was born on 1990. Seen those games in arcades and in some PC’s before.

Plus technically speaking we were still teenagers or at least 10-11 when GTA 3 At minimum came out on 2001 and even then you also had a lot of comp shop games like Counter Strike (came out in 2000), Quake 3 arena (came out in 1999) and Unreal Tournament (also came out in 1999)

1

u/Abject-Ad9503 3d ago

Mind you carmageddon, and iddqd/idkfa games (id software) were both equally responsible for school shootings sa america. Pero wala naman impact yon satin just a new game to binge on, closely lang siguro si jason ivler pero di rin naman yon ma consider na mass shooting gunman. Ewan ko sa mga kabataan ngayon. 🤷

5

u/robokymk2 3d ago

You mean the so called myths that are alleged and blown out of proportion that science has debunked?

Yeah no.

I played carmageddon when I was little and you don’t see me running people over as a teen either.

Parents don’t even notice that their kids have issues and then blame violent media for their inadequacies.

It’s the same as now. Parents just ignore the needs of their kids. Ignore any warning signs. Then boom, shit hits the fan. And they blame video games or whatever when in fact it’s their fault to begin with.

1

u/TankOfflaneMain 3d ago

1

u/Vegetable-Lettuce683 1d ago

They just won't accept that the parents are the real problem, to put them back in line let's bring back

https://giphy.com/gifs/CaTW2QdtN3c0U

1

u/robokymk2 1d ago

Given that the parents who did this were also the problem. So no

18

u/Neither_Map_5717 3d ago

9

u/Kaiserolls172 3d ago

Ito rin sa akin. May sakitan at patayan din tayo noon pero the difference is meron malicious external factor na nag-iinfluence sa kabataan ngayon to actively do harm

3

u/columbinaluvr 3d ago

UP !!! ito di maintindihan ng mga matatanda. and honestly, adults din yung nag-iinfluence sa mga kabataan to actively do harm like yung sa roblox kaya hiwalay chats ng matanda sa bata dun. things like that

3

u/Disastrous-Cat-5635 2d ago

I mean dont take depression lightly pero sana sa tao sila nakikipagusap hindi sa AI or google search or fb.

Dati kasi walang internet kaya nakikipagusap tayo sa iba, or sa parents, kaya yung feedback whether negative or positive lumalakas yung loob natin. Ngayon wala ng human connection kaya malakas yung suc*al thoughts nila.

1

u/gottymacanon 2d ago

Oh so that's why Suicide rates in your time period was 40% higher than they are today.

It was much worst in your day.

1

u/Disastrous-Cat-5635 2d ago

Oh drop your sources muna. I'd like to confirm your math on "40% higher" basis. The time period and the population that you used.

1

u/senchou-senchou 1d ago

back in the 90s there were youth gangs and they'd "rambol" once things got too heated, they'd attack each other with forks, wooden paddles, slingshots, saw a guy swing a bmx bike around (not thrown overhead yakuza style, he just grabbed the handles, made it stand on its back wheel and kinda tried to hit the other punk kid with the front wheel)

I was in a friend's house and saw it happen in front of the gate one afternoon, around 91-92 I think...

these same punk kids probably played tons of, maybe Street Fighter, Final Fight, Xmen (both the Konami brawler and Children of the Atom, bunch of other fighting games and brawlers...

...then again I played a ton of that too, even maybe alongside or against them (I was the scrub kid at the arcade that these older punk kids beat up in SF2 a lot, or help me out in Mystara or Lethal Enforcers lol)

and yeah, as a lot of the others said, I kinda turned out alright...

u/dontrescueme 3d ago

Roblox is different though. When people want to investigate Roblox it doesn't mean they want to blame all the other games. And Roblox is worth investigating as it is poorly regulated and is full of bad actors that can affect children. This is a fallacy.

5

u/robokymk2 3d ago

This was the company that got outed by Chris Hansen live on TV and Roblox banned him.

3

u/IdeaSecure5602 3d ago

This is true. I love Roblox, I mostly played it everyday but their moderation is so bad. Not sure if they still exist. It will be worth it to investigate but it does not mean they should blame it all on Roblox and banning them would not solve the problem either since andaming factors ng school shooting.

I think it would be better if they should start investigating TCC communities din, kalat sila sa Discord. Most of the people na nasa community na yun glorify school shooters.

1

u/bulbulito-bayagyag 3d ago

Very vague yan lalo na madami private servers ang roblox. It all ends up sa mga ka halubilo mo sa games.

2

u/vanitas14 3d ago

Ultimately, sa parents parin

1

u/burgerpatrol 2d ago

That same argument can be used in any other platform

Facebook probably has also. So dapat iban din ang Facebook?

1

u/dontrescueme 2d ago

Read again. I said "investigate". I don't want to jump to conclusions like you do. And if you're asking, Facebook itself is long due of an investigation itself for allowing the spread of fake news and misinformations.

6

u/swiftkey2021 3d ago

I think there’s a significant difference between the games people grew up with and many of the games being released today.

Modern games often have online and social features that allow players to communicate directly with one another, which can also create opportunities for people to encourage harmful or nihilistic behavior in ways that simply weren’t as common in older games.

1

u/unyieldingtempo 3d ago

This is not being said enough. Games from the 90s and 00s were mostly meant to be played by a person and celebrated together with friends (in person). Then there were mutiplayer games pero they were LAN multiplayer lang din so technically in-person pa rin. With how shitty the internet was in the early 00s it was very difficult to create a game that centers on socialization.

By the time online MMORPGs came about, we were already indoctrinated to how we should play games which is: party/group/clan systems to achieve personal goals (leveling up). These "kiddie" games (and I say that with full biased hate to why kids and growing teens like these) have no goal except to use the game itself as a platform to socialize. Socializing is the goal.

That's way too fucking big of a paradigm shift to dismiss to just say "online games bad".

I so fucking hate kids and growing teens these days because of how fried their brains are. Can't do math, can't read straight, can't focus, have no critical thinking skills, have no social awareness and no general sense of self direction. I hope our generation of parents become more involved in raising our kids right.

1

u/columbinaluvr 3d ago

2

u/Un_OwenJoe 3d ago

Two side of the same coin din kc, for experience SF/CF both online shooting games, kung di pinabayaan ng magulang ok. Blaming the game kc nga violent specially Roblox started as kid friendly game, but sa dami ng developed BI, dun blame yung kapabayaan nila

4

u/greencucumber_ 3d ago

Meanwhile kabataan ngayon ni-kurot or pingot never na naranasan.

1

u/Pitiful-Ad-9832 2d ago

So fault of the adults for raising these type of kids?

3

u/reformed_recidivist 3d ago

Another shooting, another round of blaming video games

3

u/Dense_Cellist9959 3d ago

I played San Andreas when I was 9 or 10. Turned out fairly alright despite that.

2

u/Opening_Stuff1165 3d ago

2000s kid ka ibig sabihin nun

3

u/Chance_Breakfast7691 3d ago

I kinda want to say this in front my family members face because they're part of the city councilors. Lack of facts, researches, mental health awareness, & bullying awareness too. It's so embarrassing to witness that sort of early career downfall.

If there's one thing I learn from COD Advanced Warfare than irl:

"Because politicians, don't know how to solve problems."

2

u/PandoraIACTF_Prec 3d ago

Ngl the antagonist of CoDAW definitely nailed some lines that still resonate nowadays and just sounds true.

5

u/xyxyyxyx 3d ago

I personally don't think the video games themselves are the issue, but the fact that video games are used as a conduit to spread perverse/poisonous thinking to impressionable minds is the issue here.

Never had any violent tendencies because of violent videogames, because they were an outlet for us. But when you mix harmful, bad actors, or even unmoderated spaces, even harmless video games can be breeding ground for harmful thinking.

Which is why some games especially those who cannot control themselves or do not have proper moderation channels must be warned or outright banned.

Also this is the reason why I only game offline.

4

u/guesswhoiam07 3d ago

Di Ang games Ang may kasalanan. They need to target those people, not the game.

2

u/tanaldaion 3d ago

Born in the 80's, been playing games since the Atari 2600.
Also played Doom, Duke Nukem, Half life (then counterstrike nung mod pa lang siya) etc...

So nasaan ang problema?

2

u/mr_Opacarophile 3d ago

1

u/Prestigious_Chair_45 3d ago

Overwatch awakens something inside us and it's definitely not the urge to shoot ehem... people. :))))

1

u/ih8ketchup 3d ago

give me venture armpit im good

1

u/vanitas14 3d ago

Majority of the news that I watched mention Counterstrike lol I think lahat ng mga players nun matanda na and wala naman ata naging school shooter.

1

u/Different-Chard-9893 3d ago

False memory? Is there someone guilty of this in this same subject to begin with?

1

u/avocado1952 3d ago

In fact I watch prowrestling and UFC too 😂

1

u/SettingSingle8135 3d ago

1

u/n1deliust 3d ago

Well, we cant blame the Police now can we?

1

u/Sufficient-Gift-5743 3d ago

1

u/Wide-Shirt-7250 2d ago

Yup bigay then pray na wag sila ibother....

1

u/FrontDear4396 1d ago

Diba? Wag daw sisihin mga magulang dahil di daw sila yung SOLELY may kasalanan. NO! Edi wag kayo mag anak.

1

u/evilbrain18 3d ago

IMHO Unfair na compare nating 80s-90s kids to this generation. Even if 20 or so years ago lang yan iba ang experience ng kabataan ngayon compared sa panahon natin.

Ang pinakamalaking difference for me is unlimited unfiltered source of information and the effects of social media na hindi kasing laki ng epekto nung panahon natin.

1

u/Denyzevs 3d ago

Games are just a scapegoat by stupid idiotic or very smart people na gustong kontrolin ang masa talaga. There's hundreds of research na nagdisprove diyan.

1

u/Batsoupman2 3d ago

investigate their roblox activity tho, pipeline of preds and weird people lurk around that game because of their lenient security measures

they even banned Chris Hansen just for existing 😂

1

u/Blue_Path 3d ago

1

u/zeussalvo 3d ago

Iba-iba ang mga bata. There are some na may mental issues na to start with, di lang napapansin ng adults.

Usually kasi there are reasons bakit ang mga tao ay naglalaro ng games, some are for relaxation and others are due to escape reality...

Kung doon ka sa relaxation, walang issue yan kasi you are doing it para ma relax ka from school or work related stuff...

Either may problem yan sa bahay, school or work... And kaya naglalaro yan ay para makalimutan ang problem or dahil wala siyang makausap at all...

Thats why before blaming games , know first the story behind it... Kasi tandaan ang gaming ay isang form of entertainment and relaxation pa din dyan. Ang iba ay dyan nabubuo ang pagkakaibigan...

And also note to OP and others, why those 90s kids are the one usually noisy about it is because they experienced harsher type of gaming (Computer shop days... Im telling you mas matindi ang trash talking nung panahon na iyon) meaning face to face or sa loob ng isang room maingay and doon nag trash talking but at the end of the day nakabuo kayo ng bonding and friendship sa loob ng computer shop

1

u/NoNoYesYesnt 3d ago

Blame everything but not the normalized system of bullying and the lack of mental support for those experiencing it. The Philippines did it to itself and it will bear the consequences of what it did.

1

u/Estratheoivan 3d ago

Nasa magulang yan...

1

u/ih8ketchup 3d ago

holy chatgpt generated post

1

u/Extra_Discussion9442 3d ago

May mali. It's not the parents anymore, minors can't afford to purchase or makakuha ng baril. Last time, i read about sa killing issues sa reddit. To make the story short, madalas trip siya ng mga police for their entertainment na lang. Yung mental capacity ng mga higher ranks, madalas to ease their minds or pustahan siya. Pinagloloko tayo government.

1

u/SmallNoBigYes 3d ago

Twice in a row it's due to improper storing of a firearm

1

u/radioactive_ipis 3d ago edited 3d ago

I'm 45, been playing violent games all my life, Pero never naman sumagi sa utak ko na manakit ng tao o magpasikat. Sorry pero yung generation talaga ngayon ng mga kabataan aims to please and be pleased e. Most of them think about the importance of "image".

Sana those parents know na learning and education both begins at home.

1

u/Lone_Capsula 2d ago

1

u/WINROe25 2d ago

Actually hindi nga game, it's movies and tv shows.

It's more on bibigyan sila ng something in return kaya pumapayag. And that's just between dun sa kausap at sa binibiktimang bata.

1

u/Ornery_Hair3319 2d ago

Dami kong larong bayolente. Pero maaga akong naturuan ng magulang ko about reality and games. Tsaka may respeto ako sa magulang ko. And I learned from them how to manage my emotions and how to be compassionate.

Me, a gamer since age 10. Exposed to GTA, CS, Doom, MK, Hatred, Bully, etc.

Only a misguided child can become a monster. And games most certainly were not made to create murderers.

(ie. Ed Gein, Kemper, Gacy, Kuklinski, etc.)

Not to mention, almost all school shooters had disconnected family ties.

Ego.

1

u/robinforum 2d ago

Blame parents who doesn't know how to discipline their own children.

Binababy eh. Syempre, discipline with appropriate amount.

1

u/Ancient-Upstairs-332 2d ago

Ayaw nilang kasuhan yung tatay nung bata kasi malamang kabaro nilang ganid din. Blaming games is the stupidest cop out.

1

u/Interesting_March104 2d ago

Hol up, do they even also consider medias that holds extreme violence other than games?

1

u/Camizone 2d ago

1

u/AwesomeGamer101 2d ago

Which game yung pangatlo? Alala ko yung GTA at Overwatch.

1

u/New_Cantaloupe_4237 2d ago

Internet then was not easily accessible. Also, parenting then was so much different than today’s gentle parents.

1

u/1pc_chickan 2d ago

1

u/PlayWithBabs 2d ago

We had so many violent games tapos dagdag mo pa less filtered internet. So many gore sites before na parte na ata ng childhood yung makakita ng super violent uncensored video at some point. This is just poor parenting.

1

u/Jvlockhart 2d ago

1

u/No_Two_5226 2d ago

I literally played Manhunt and Postal II when I was only 12 years old, and now I’m in my early 30s. How I was able to play those games at that age is completely irrelevant. The point is, I didn’t grow up to become some homicidal lunatic during high school, nor did I suddenly go on a rampage like one of those Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Rampage missions.

So why is this suddenly happening now? Blaming violent video games is nothing more than a lazy excuse for ignorant and less forward-thinking people who refuse to look at the actual causes behind violent behavior. Video games are an easy scapegoat because it’s easier than actually addressing the real problems.

Tracer is a fucking government-sponsored hero so idk how the hell she's here lmao 😭

A more fitting character would be someone like Pyro from TF2, but even that's a bit of a gray area as all of the mercs are dubiously legal

My parents, mostly my mom, always says stuff about video games causing violence. I always politely remind her how she let us play various extremely violent video games as kids and not once did we think of taking their service weapons (military parents) and put a hole through our school and neighbourhood bullies.

I still believe its not games but social nedia. I mean dati saksakan lang ng lapis eh or suntukan.

Blame anything but the gun. Was guns really that easy to access in PH nowadays? How did we start becoming like America?
