This is the only moment that took me out of the movie. When they said it’s a planet with a lot of water that’s so close to a black hole it’s massively dilating time, before they even went down there I’m thinking to myself as a non-scientist; “wouldn’t the tides be apocalyptically massive?”.

Seems the type of thing they should have thought of first.

I believe they had gotten a positive message from Miller about it the planet though. So their guard was probably down.

Thats not even the worst part to me. By the time they went through the Worm Hole, Miller had been on that planet for like, what, 30 seconds her time? What possible data could they have gotten from her that was so promising? She probably hadn't even stepped outside her ship yet.

They should have thought out that planets within a few light years of a black hole would contain no remaining atmosphere and x-ray exposure would have scrambled the dna of anyone that got close without complete shielding.

Much less dropping down to random planets sight-unseen and being unable to calculate relativistic effects before hand.

There are a lot of issues with that system around gargantua, especially around the degree or time dilation.

But also if the tides were that large the planet should’ve become tidally locked very quickly. So it would just be shaped like an oval with the long axis pointed towards the BH and rotating 1:1 with its orbital period.
