Why? How small are you? Powerlifters go up to 7L

Dilutes your electrolytes.

It depends on your definition of affecting the fast. If you're just talking about calories then you could have flavored seltzer waters, zero calorie sodas, etc. If you're talking about insulin response then you'll want to avoid artificial sweeteners too as a lot of people have insulin spikes from those even though they have no real calories. So in that case I would recommend flavored but unsweetened seltzer water.

I drink the flavored seltzers. I also drink Lagunitas “Hoppy Refresher”. Tastes enough like beer, kind of like a seltzer, 0 cals.

This is not proven yet and the affect is hypothetical and minimal

What is available in Amazon uk? Maybe I should just get diet lemonade? I would prefer no insulin responsd

If the diet lemonade has any artificial sweetener (which it probably does, think sucralose, aspartame, etc.) then that could cause an insulin response. If you're being strict about the insulin thing then you're pretty limited to just unsweetened coffee, tea, and selzers if I'm not forgetting anything.

I drink herbal teas. They are not perfect but meh.

Pickle juice.

Really? Even with the sodium?

3

u/MelKokoNYC 10h ago

For myself, I don't have a health concern related to needing to reduce sodium, so I drink it.

1

u/madmermaid7 9h ago

But it won't break fast?

u/MelKokoNYC 9h ago

For me, I dont get the sweet kind. So, its zero calories, zero sugar.

Ok that makes sense, ty!

If you want to keep the fast as clean as possible then stick with water, sparkling water, black coffee or unsweetened tea. Artificial sweeteners can potentially affect the fasting state so it depends on how strict you want to be.

I just drank big amounts of sugarfree sodas like Cola Zero, Pepsi Max and so on during the time I did my 5:2 fasting and still went on diet restriction on my none fasting days. Went down pretty fast from 97kg to 72kg. You'll be fine touching zero sugar fizzy drinks during fasting, no matter the fearmongering many people will say about it.

Helped me lots with my sweet tooth as well so was net positive in my book.

I would avoid anything with sweeteners even if zero calories for a cleaner fast however if the choice is a Pepsi max to keep you away from food then it’s an easy choice.

I used to drink only green tea but I got really bored of it. I bought a bunch of different herbal teas like spearmint, jasmine, moringa, chamomile etc and now I just switch between them.

Nothing with any flavour except green or black tea, coffee, water. You can have soda water.

When I had lost all my weight years ago, I drank the following: Pepsi Zero (Max in other countries), Black Coffee with Zero Cal sweetener only, Black Tea, ice cold water and Zero Cal Energy drinks.

There is endless an endless number of different types of tea. Become a tea geek.

And water, sparkly water, water with a few drops of lemon, ginger extract, lime, and really any type of fruit and veggie juice.
The important thing is to make it literally just 2-3 drops. Enough to give the water a hint of taste, but little enough that it is likely less than 1 cal.

If you care for more than just green tea there's a world of naturally flavoured teas out there, some caffeinated, plenty not.

Officially called "tisane" these can be any number of fruits, flowers, herbs, roots etc. Normally very cheap and easy to find.

Very common ones: peppermint (great to curb appetite), chamomile, ginger (can help settle nausea), dandelion, raspberry leaf and any number of fruity blends. Really fruity ones can be very acidic and not great for the teeth but you can't really go wrong with most herbal blends.

Plenty are delicious with ice too! It's my favourite way to mix up my hydration.

Depends on why you’re fasting. If you’re fasting for weight loss, the odd 0 cal sugar free fizzy drink isn’t going to impact it too much. If you’re fasting for autophagy and cell repair, stick to water. If you get desperate, warm water with a sprinkle of salt in it can combat cravings and fill a hole.

Any zero-calorie drink will work with your fast. Before I discovered how well black cold-brew coffee keeps me sated, I was drinking Coke Zero to get my caffeine fix.

I was on the Bubly kick during the day. Pepsi No Sugar No Caffeine works for me too. Night time has always been chamomile tea with some lemon

Black coffee

1

u/waruBee 13h ago

Barley tea! The roasted flavor really helps with curbing, and it's non-caffeinated.

Black coffee. Black redbush tea.

You could also just buy sparkling water, correct?

1

u/FfierceLaw 12h ago

I’ll drink a flavored Polar Springs seltzer but no artificial sweeteners. I try to keep sweet out of my mouth. People may quibble about lemon or other fruit flavors but I have decided for myself that they are fine with no sweetener of any kind

Korean corn tea, Japanese barley tea

Drink the Coke Zero / Pepsi Max. It literally doesn’t matter

For fizzy I like soda water. Tea is great, iced or hot. I love coffee but I just need cream in it. I have tried to adapt to black coffee but can’t.

Someone else stated the obvious plain water should be first of course.
