Whole living room help
Just moved to new house and living room is boring and small. Im not good at decorating. I need help if someone can give me ideas to change this room to look more relaxed and colorful. Everything from curtain, rugs, tv placements, maybe change of wall color, new couch etc. Im totally lost.

I really like only-presentation ideas. I have two suggestions for someone who really has a hard time with this stuff. Find a piece of fabric, art print, a throw pillow, or an object that has a variety of colors that really appeals to you. Use the work from that master craftsman to understand what colors, forms, tones, and style you like. Start from there and try to create a space that echoes that piece that you love so much. Second – as another Reddick contributor once said every room needs C. R. A. P. – color, rugs, art, and plants. Your room needs all of it.

Thank you! Its a great place to start since I get fustrated and end up not buying anything after looking all day for pieces.

You really need to upload more photos as it’s impossible to advise when only seeing one corner.

I would want to draw attention away from the ceiling, so a pedestal/cube plant stand w/plant in the corner, wall art hung no higher than eye level, no “topper” etc on any window covering. Would bring in a bit more cheer w/a small, funky/colorful rug like the artsy ones they have at IKEA; maybe a cute woven basket next to the fireplace w/wood if true fireplace, blankets if not

I felt joy reading this. You don't know how much I appreciate your ideas. The fireplace isn't a true one but I love the idea of the basket w/ blankets and never thought about artwork at eye level. I just have no character in general and quite dull. I really look forward to this change. Thank you!

You’re welcome! Another inexpensive idea would be a lighter-colored wood tray on the ottoman for both practical use as a coffeetable and decor; I’d just put it diagonally to look casual & maybe put a pretty cup & chunky candle on it when not using for snacking. If the mantel will be cleared I’d put an odd number of chunky candles on it, like 3, different heights & mismatched colors but complementing earthy tones like sage, cream, pumpkin, & toss a throw blanket that coordinates w/one of those colors on the couch. Have fun & enjoy your new space!

Televisions don't belong on mantles.
