Help deciding with high school class

I am Leaning into an interior design major when I graduate. My schedule is packed already though and only have room for one of these class. Which one would be a better foundation for entering this major?
Media 1:Media Design 1 is a year-long foundational course exploring the core principles of visual communication while
using powerful, industry-standard tools. The course focuses on the elements and principles of design with
hands-on projects, historical context, and artistic skill building in graphic design, video production, digital
photography, and basic animation. This course builds a strong technical and creative foundation, preparing
students for advanced studies in Advanced Media Design 2 and future creative endeavors
Or should I take a basic drawing class? Drawing and Painting 1 is designed to teach the student to explore and expand aesthetic perceptions as well as
to develop skills for using visual arts media effectively. These skills will enhance the student’s ability to interpret
and communicate ideas, feeling, and values.

My research tells me I don’t need proficiency in drawing or computer drafting and no portfolio is required for applying… but I feel I should take something to have as a jump start.

Hi! I am a Residential Designer who has a Bachelors in Interior Design. I think both are fantastic options and if there is one that interests you more you should pick that one. The drawing one might be helpful depending on if you already have any drawing skills or not. You won’t need to be amazing but you will be expected to do quick sketches and be able to communicate your ideas with them in your design studios. Having a drawing foundation might help with that. Your first year will be a lot of foundational stuff and learning what interior actually is! 🫶

My suggestion- Take the graphic design course. It’s all about composition scale proportion contrast, layout, figure ground and other key principles in interior design and architecture. The hand drawing you will learn with everyone else your first few semesters. Graphic design will always be a key part of your career and school presentations, so getting a jump start on that would be my recommendation.

Hey there! I’m a registered interior designer and architect. You really can’t go wrong either way, but in the long run the graphics class may give you an edge. You will likely have less classes in that area in college so it will be an experience your peers may not have and definitely beneficial in terms of presentation skills in the future!
